Abstract

137,737. Young, J. May 21, 1919. Tobacco pipes. - A tobacco pipe of cigar shape is built up of (1) a bowl or tobacco-container A made of clay, asbestos, wood, &c. with a filling-aperture a<2> and contracted lighting-aperture a', (2) a metal cooling-chamber M within a casing B, which is formed of non-conducting material with perforations p in the shape of lettering, designs, &c., (3) a helical core C with end recesses h<1>, h' and perforations h<2>, h<3>, and (4) a mouthpiece D with a flexible non-return flap valve f to prevent saliva from entering the pipe. The easing is pushed back on the core to uncover the aperture a<2> to fill the pipe. The smoke passes into the recess h', through the hole h<2>, along the helical groove between the core and metal tube M, through the hole h<3>, into the recess h<4>, and through the mouthpiece D. The bowl may make an air-tight joint with the core, or form an extension of it.
