TOBACCO-PIPE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented NOV. 12, 1907.
Application filed April 4. 1906- Serial No. 309,809-
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EMILE VALLANCE, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of the Bronx, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Tobacco- Pipe, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to improvements in tobacco pipes, the object being to provide a simple and novel means for cleaning the interior of the pipe-bowl.
Twill describe a tobacco pipe embodying my invention, and then point out the novel features in the appended claim.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure 1 is a section on the line 1-1 of Fig. 2, showing a cleaning device embodying my invention; Fig. 2 is a section on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1; and Fig. 3 is a plan view of the improvements applied.
Referring to the drawings, 5 designates the pipebowl, the upper portion 6 of which is separate from the body portion of the bowl, so that said upper portion may have rotary movement but said upper portion 1 forms an extension or part of the bowl. The cleaning i device consists of a metal blade 7 which is substantially U-shaped, or conforming to the inner shape of the pipebowl, and the ends of the blade are secured to the r0- tary part 6. Preferably, the said ends will be secured to the rotary part by means of a metal ring 8, the lower end of which extends downward below the rotary part and is designed to engage in the pipe body, thus preventing any lateral movement of the part 6 relatively to the main portion 5 of the body.
In operation, for cleaning the pipe, the part 6 is to be rotated, which of course, will rotate the blade in the pipe body, thus effectually cleaning the same of incrustation that may be therein.
Having thus described my invention I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
In a tobacco pipe, a rotatable section on the top ,of the bowl. said section having a ring secured to the inner Wall thereof and projecting into the bowl, and a blade consist ing of a strip of material having its ends secured to the ring. and extending into the bowl, said strip being bent to conform with and to rest against the inner surface of the bowl, said strip being arranged perpendicular to the plane of the ring and having its [lat faces in contact with the inner surface of the bowl.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
EMILE VALLANCE.
