To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, SAMUEL R. AUKER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Altoona, in the county of Blair and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvement in Combined Shade and Curtain Fixtures, of which th following is a specification.

This invention relates to combination shade and curtain fixtures designed to be applied to a window-frame, comprising means for properly hanging the ordinary springcontrolled shade-rollerand the pole for lace curtains.

To this end the invention contemplates a simple and practical construction of combined shade and curtain fixture embodying every adjustment necessary for adapting the fixture to varying lengths of shade-rollers and to different forms and sizes of windowframes. Also the invention has in view a novel and practical construction for permitting the lace-curtain holder to be hung at any desired distance from the window-frame, or, in other words, to maintain any relative distance desired between the window-shade and the lace curtain.

Another object of the invention is to provide a separable knockdown structure which can be readily set up and taken apart.

ith these and many other objects in view, which will more readily appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists in the novel construction, combination, and arrangement of parts here inafter more fully described, illustrated, and claimed.

The essential features of the invention in volded in carrying out the foregoing objects are necessarily susceptible to structural change without departing from the scope of the invention; but a preferred embodiment of the latter is shown in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a top plan view of a combined shade and curtain fixture embodying the present invention, the view also including the projected end elevation of the extensible supporting-bar. Fig. 2 is a front elevation of the fixture. Fig. 3 is an end view thereof. Fig. 4 is a large cross-sectional view onthe line 4 4 of Fig. 2-. Figs. 5, 6, and 7 are a series of elevations of the adjustable curtainholder. Figs. 8, 9, and 10 are similar views of the hanger-bracket for the fixture. Figs.

11, 12, and 13 are similar views of the supplemental bracket-pieces for supporting the curtain-holders. Fig. 14 is a diagrammatic cross-sectional view on the line 14 14 of Fig. 1, showing the telescopic engagement between the parts 2 and 3 of the supportingbar.

The invention includes in its general organization an extensible supporting-bar, designated in its entirety by the numeral 1 and essentially consisting of a central sleeve-section 2 and the oppositely-arranged extension-sections 3, telescopically engaging the sleeve-section 2. Both the sleeve and end sections 2 and 3 consist of angled plates, or, in other words, are of an L shape in crosssection, as plainly shown in Figs. 1 and 14 of the drawings; but in order to provide for a telescopic engagement of the sleeve-section and the end sections the said sleevesection is provided along its longitudinal edges with the inturned slide-flanges 4, which are slidably engaged by the edges of the sections 3, and the latter slidably register within the angle of the sleeve-section 2, so that the several sections constitute what has been termed an extensible supporting-bar 1, inasmuch as the end sections 3 are free to be slid in and out to vary the length of the supporting-bar to suit the width of the window-frame to which the fixture is applied. The said extensible supporting-bar 1 constitutes a carrying element for supporting and partially housing the shade-roller. To provide for this, the said supporting-bar has fitted to the outer ends of its end sections 3 the shaderoller brackets 5 and 6, respectively, which are provided with the usual slots and openings 7 and S to receive the Opposite journal extremities of the shade-roller. By reason of this arrangement of the brackets 5 and'6 the shade-roller is partially housed beneath the upper horizontal flange of the supportingbar 1, so that the roller is protected from dust that usually settles on the top thereof and frequently leaves a dirty streak, which appears upon the shade when drawn down.

The extensible supporting-bar 1 is properly supported in position through the medium of upright hanger-brackets 9, adapted to be arranged at opposite sides of the window-frame and which are provided with a plurality of keyhole-slots 10, adapted to be detachably locked over the heads of supporting-screws screwed in the window-frame for holding the fixture in place.

Each upright hanger-bracket 9 is provided at its outer side with an angled spring-holding clip 11, having a vertical member 12 and a horizontal member 13. The vertical flange of one of the end extension-sections 3 of the bar 1 is adapted to be inserted behind the vertical member 12- of the clip 11, while the horizontal flange of said extension-section will rest on the horizontal member 13 of said clip. This provides a firm support for the supporting-bar, while at the same time admitting of lengthwise adjustment thereof and also of its ready removal.

Each fixture-hanger bracket 9 is further provided at its upper end with a rest-socket 14, receiving the supporting-leg 15, bent downwardly from one end of the supplemental bracket-piece 16, provided therein with a longitudinal play-slot 17, and at the end opposite the leg 15 with an upstanding keeper-lug 18. This lug is provided therein with a tapering wedge opening 19, adapted to receive therein the adjustable holder-arm 20 for the lace-curtain pole. The holderarm 20 is provided at its inner end with a headed slide-foot 21, engaging the slot 17, and at its other end is provided with a polehook 21, in which rests the curtain-pole. In the outer side of the hook 21 there is preferably mounted a retaining-screw 22 for securing the curtain-pole in place. The weight of the curtain-pole on the holder-arms 20 serves to lock the same in the wedge openings 19. At the same time in setting up the fixture the curtain-holder arms 20 can be readily ad-.

Should the conditions of use require screwing or otherwise fastening the shade-roller brackets 5 and 6- directly to the windowj ambs, thus obviating the use of the fixturebrackets 9, another feature of the invention comes into use. That feature resides in the provision of spacing-bosses 23 on the outer sides of the brackets 5 and 6, and keeperslots 24 in the upper sides of the end sections 3 take the place of the sockets 14 of said fixture-brackets.

I claim.

1. A fixture of, the class described comprising oppositely-arranged hanger-brackets each having a holding-clip and a socket at its upper end, a supporting-bar having its end portions adapted to fit over and engage behind said holding-clips, said supporting-bar carrying at the ends shade-roller brackets, a supplemental bracket-piece for each hangerbracket having a supporting-leg at one end for engagement with the socket of said bracket, and an adjustable curtain-holder arm slidably fitted to and adjustably connected with each of said bracket-pieces and provided at its outer end with a holder-hook having retaining means.

2. A fixture of the class described co1nprising oppositely-arranged hanger-brackets each having an angled holding-clip and a socket at its upper end, an extensible supporting-bar having end sections adapted to fit over and engage behind said holding-clips,

said end sections of the bar carrying shaderoller brackets, a supplemental bracket-piece for each hangerbracket havin a longitudinal play-slot, a su'pporting-l eg at one end for engagement with the socket of said hanger-bracket and at its opposite end provided with an upstanding keeper-lug hav ing a wedge opening therein, and an adjustable curtain-holder arm extending through the opening of said keeper-lug and provided at its inner end with a downturned headed slide-foot engaging the play-slot of the bracket-piece, said holder-arm being provided at the outer end with a holder-hook having aretaining-screw.
