Description
No. 876,672. PATENTED JAN.14, 1908. J. WILLIAMS.
CURTAIN POLE.
APPLICATION FILED SEPT. 24, 1907.

CURTAIN-POLE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 14, 1908.
Application filed September 24' 1907- Serial No. 394.350.
T0 alt whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J OHN WILLIAMS, a citizen of the United States of America, residing.
at Allegheny, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Curtain- Poles, ofwhich the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
T is invention relates to curtain poles, and the invention has for'its object to provide a novel pole, wherein the usual rings and pins are dispensed with for supporting curtains and adjustably holding the same.
The invention aims to provide a telescopic curtain pole that can be easily adjusted to fit w1ndow-frames of various widths, and in connection with the curtain pole I use adjustable brackets for supporting a pole at any desired distance from the window-frame.
The detail construction entering into the invention will be presently described and then specifically pointed out in the appended claims.
Referring to the drawings: Figure 1 is a front elevation of a curtain pole constructed 1n accordance with my invention, Fig. 2 is a cross sectional view of the same, illustrating a sectional view of a bracket employed for supporting the pole, and Fig. 3 is a longitudinal sectional view of a portion of the pole partly in elevation.
- T 0 put my invention into practice, I construct the curtain pole of two metallic tubular telescopic sections 1 and 2, having longitudinally disposed slots 3 formed therein, these slots registering when the sections of the pole are connected together. ted sections of the pole I use balls or spherical bodies 4 having de )ending eyelets 5, from which are sus )ended clasps of a conventional form, said c asps comprising two pivoted gripping members 6 of the usual form for engaging the up )er edges of curtains 7. -'l.he outer ends of t 1e curtain )ole sections 1 and 2 are provided with detac iable caps 7,'whieh can be ornamental according to ones esthetic taste.
I11 the slot- In connection with the curtain pole just described, I use brackets consisting of plates 8 secured to a window frame 9 by screws 10 or a similar fastening means. Each plate carries a tubular extension 11 having a centrally apertured guide block 12 in its outer end. In each extension is slidably mounted a head or piston 14 carrying a rod 15, which extends through the guide apertured in the block 12 and has its outer end bent downwardly and then upwardly to provide a' hook 16. From the 00k 16 the curtain pole is suspended by means of hangers 17 carried adjacent to the outer ends of the sections 1 and 2 of the curtain pole. From the novel construction of the brackets, it will be observed that the pole can be supported at any desired distance from a window-frame, doorway or alcove in connection with which it is used.
It is apparent from the construction of the curtain ole and the curtain supporting means, tiat the hanger can be easily and quickly moved or draped, as one may desire.
Such variations and modifications in the invention as fall within the scope of the ap-.
pended claims can be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the appended claims.
Having now described my invention what I'claim as new, is
The combination with adjustable brackets, each comprising a tubular extension having an apertured guide in the outer end, a piston in the tubular extension having a rod working through the apertured guide block and provided on its outer end with a hook, of a telescopic curtain pole suspended from said hooks, and curtain supporting means carried by said pole.
In testimonywbereof I affix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
HUMPIIREY LYNon, NORA RODDY.
