Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 5, 1907.
Application tiled August 24, 1906. Serial No. 331,907.
r//ZZ whom it rim/y concer/t:
Be it known that l, JOSEPH M. lUsnr, a citizen of the United States, residing at vtitilmington, in the county of Newcastle and State of Delaware, have invented certain new and useful improvements in luzzles, et which the following is a speci'tication.
This invention relates to puzzles, and pertains especially to the class ol" puzzles eomprising a board, cords, and posts.
The object of the invention is to provide a simple, novel, and ingenious puzzle requiring skill and dexterous manipulation to solve.
A still further object o' the invention is to provide a puzzle embodying a set ol posts, certain ot which have an independent cord attached thereto, and all of which are adapted to be removably held by a board having a diagram of the solution ol the puzzle depicted thereon.
ln the accompanying drawings, forming part of this application, Figure l is a plan view of the board, showing the solution ol" the puzzle in diagram. Fig. 2 is a similar view showing the posts in proper position on the board. Eig. 3 is a perspective view showing the puzzle solved.
rlhe same relierence-numerals denote the same parts in the several views ol'` the drawings.
rlhe board l, as shown in the drawings, is preferably square, but it may be rectangular or any other desirable shape and con'liguration, and provided with four holes 2 and a line diagram showing the solution of the puzzle. The posts are removably held in the holes 2, and in the placing thereof is one eature or the 'lirst step in solving the puzzle.
There are two pairs of posts, one pair coniprising the post 3, having a cord 4 attached thereto, and the post 5, having a cord G secured thereto, and the other pair oi posts 7 and 8 are without cords. The top et all et said posts is provided with projections or pins 9 and slots 10, by means ol" which the cords are anchored.
In manipulating'. the puzzle the object is to connect all the posts together with the cords without lapping the cords o1'l`orming a double line o'lE them in any direction. This' is accomplished by placing the posts 3 and 5 adjacent e; ch other, so that the posts 7 and S will not intervene the posts S andy as they stand on the board. 'lhe cord l is extended from its post 3 around the pin of the post 7, thence diagonally around the pin of the post to the post S, where it is anchored in one of the slots ol the post S. The cord (3 is extended from the post 5 around the pin ot the post 3, thence diagonally around the pin oi the post S to the post 7, where it is anchored by lmeans of one ol` the slots in the post 7.
While I show posts having pins and slots, other' suitable means may be provided for hooking the cords over and attaching them to the posts.
Having thus described my invention, what l claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is#
l. A puzzle comprising a board, a pair o'l posts provided with separato cords, and a pair ol posts without cords and adapted to be connected to the cord-posts by the cords without lapping the latter.
2. A puzzle comprising a board, a series ol" posts, indcpeinlent cords iixed to certain of the posts and adapted to connect the other posts and the cord-posts together to lorm an inclosure without lapping the cords.
3. A puzzle comprising a board, a series of posts adjustable on the board in pairs, a separate eord attached to e ch post o'lt one pair, said cords adapted to be crossed diagonally and to connect all ol the posts together with# out lapping the cords, and means 'for anchor ing the cords.
ln testimoiiy whereof l allix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
