TOY-PISTOL.

The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.

To all whom it Imay concern:

Be it known that I, GBEENLEAF STACKPOLE, of New York city, ih the county and State of New York, have invented certain Improvements in Toy-Pistols; and I do hereby declare that the following is afull and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.

rlhe nature of my invention consists in the peculiar manner of making a toy-pistol, as hereinafter described.

To enable others skilled in the art to make anduse my invention, I will proceed to describe its construction and operation.

I work a piece of wood into the form of a pistol. I then bore out the ban'el, 'and out a slot in its `under side. Said slot is marked A in Figure 1 of the accompanying drawings.

I then provide a spring-trigger, as shown at E, in iig. 1; also shown, separate, in Figure 3. This is fastcned in its place by the ends e c being driven into the body. of the pistol, astride the bore.

I then provide a plunger, as shown in Figure 2. I put the plunger into the barrel of the pistol, and drive the screw S through the slot A, -in the barrel, into the plunger, leaving the head of the screw projecting far enough to receive the end of the rubber band B.

I then put a ferrule, H, on the end of the barrel, and drive the screw N through the fermile into the barrel. The screw N l serves the double purpose of holding the ferrule in place, and for holding the end of the. rubber band B.

It will be readily seen that if the plunger be pressed back into the barrel, the head of the screw S may be caught under the hook of the trigger E, which will hold the rubber band extended the length of the slot.

Now, if a pea were placed in the barrel, and the trigger pulled, the pea would be thrown out of the barrel by the contracting of the rubber spring drawing the plunger forward, and be propelled to a distance varying with the strength of the rubber.

Having thus described my invention,

What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is- A pistol or gun, having the spring-trigger E and slot A, in combination with the rubber band B and plunger F, when the parts are constructed and operated substantially as set forth.
