PATENT OFFICEO HOMER G. CLOVER, OF DENVER, COLORADO.
TICKET-HOLDER FOR DAIRYIVIEN.
I SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 784,733, dated March 14, 1905.
Application filed May 5, 1904. Serial No. 206,567.
To a. whom it may concern:
Beit known that I, HOMER (Jr. CLOVER, acitizen of the United States, residing at Denver, in the county of Denver and State of Oolorado, have invented a new and useful Ticket- Holder for Dairymen, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to ticket-holders for dairymen.
The invention is designed for use in localities Where it is customary to purchase from the dairyman a milk-ticket which entitles the purchaser to a certain number of bottles of milk. Each time a bottle of milk isdelivcred the 'dairyman punches the ticket, until the full number of bottles have been delivered. As the milk-bottles are generally delivered at an early hour in the morning, it is inconvenient for the ticket-purchaser to present the ticket in person to have it punched by the dairyman, so the custom has developed of leaving the milk-ticket with the empty milk-bottle. hen the dairyman calls for the empty bottle, he punches the ticket and leaves a full bottle. The great disadvantage present in this system is that the ticket is likely to be and often is lost by blowing away or else is damaged by getting wet and then freezing to the bottle or to steps, porches, and window-sills in bad weather.
The object of my invention is to avoid the disadvantages of the system above outlined. I accomplish this object by means of a ticketholder which 1 have devised for holding the milk-ticket upon the empty milk-bottle and permitting it to be readily removed therefrom along with its holder, punched by the dairyman without the necessity of detaching it from the holder, and then attached to the full milk-bottle which is to be left.
The ticket-holder which I have devised is strong, durable, and inexpensive in construction as well asthoroughly eflicient in use.
To permit a clearer understanding of the invention, I will describe it in detail with reference to the accompanying drawings, where- 1n- Figure l'is a perspective view of a milkbottle with a ticket-holder constructed in accordance with the present invention attached ably, from a single piece of wire and is bent to form a circular loop 1, constituting the bottle-clamping member. The wire is to be resilient in character, so that when the holder is positioned upon the bottle, preferably the body portion thereof, the frictional contact between it and the holder will be sufficient to hold the latter in position. the member 1 is bent to form a loop 2, which is disposed at right angles to the member 1 and constitutes a flexing member for distending the member 1 when it is to be removed from the bottle, thereby materially facilitating its positioning and removal. At the neck of the loop 2 the wire is turned or twisted once around the member 1 and is then extended along one side of the said member, then bent upon itself to form an elongated loop 4, which constitutes a ticket-clamping member, the free end of which terminates adjacent to the coil 3. The coil 3 terminates on the inner side of the member 1.. It will be seen that this latter member will project outward between the arms of the ticket-clamping member, and thus operate in conjunction therewith firmly and positively to clamp the ticket 5 in place.
In use of the device the bottle-clamping One terminal of r member is disposed around the body of the bottle or holder and the ticket is inserted lengthwise between the ticket-clamping member and the bottle-clamping member. To remove the holder from the bottle, it will be only necessary to insert the finger through the flexing member 2 and upon a lateral pull being exerted thereon the b0 ttle-clamping member will be flexed and may thus readily be removed from the bottle. The milkman then punches the ticket, which is retained by the holder, and the latter is then positioned upon v I a filled bottle of milk.
It will be seen from the foregoing description that although the device of this invention is exceedingly simple of construction it will be found thoroughly efficient and durable in use and may readily be manufactured ata price that will place it within the reach of users.
\Nhat I claim is 1. A device of the class described comprising a bottle-clamping member, and a ticketclamping member through Which a portion of the bottle-clamping member projects.
2. A device of the class described comprising a bottle-clamping member and a ticketclamping member disposed longitudinally of the bottle clamping member and through which a portion of the latter projects.
3. A device of the class described comprising a bottle-clamping member, a ticket-clamping member disposed longitudinally thereof, and a flexing member.
4. A device of the class described comprising a bottle-clamping member, a flexing member therefor and disposed at right angles thereto, and a ticket-clamping member disposed longitudinally of the bottleclamping member.
5. A device ofthe class described comprising a bottle-clamping member, a flexing member therefor, and a ticket-clampin member.
6. A device of the class described comprising a bottle-clamping member, a flexing member therefor, and a ticket-clamping member, all of the parts being integral.
7. A device of the class described comprising a bottle-clamping member, a flexing member therefor, and a ticket-clamping member disposed exteriorly of the bottle clamping member.
8. A device of the class described comprising a bottle-clamping member, and an elongated ticket-clamping member disposed exteriorly of the bottle-clamping member.
9. A device of the class described comprising a bottle-clamping member, an elongated ticket member disposed exteriorly thereof, and a flexing member disposed at right angles to the bottle-clan1ping member.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto aflixed my signature in the presence of two Witnesses.
HOMER G. CLOVER.
