TICKET-CLIP.
. Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 2d, 1915.
Application filed Mai-ch17, 1914. Serial No. 825,289.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, J OHN EDGAR STEW- ART and WILLIAM ALEXANDER RUSSELL, both of the city of Winnipeg, in the Province of Manitoba, Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ticket- -Clips, of which the following is the specification.
The invention relates to improvements in ticket clips especially to clips-utilized for holding milk or such like tickets wherein the material delivered is in bottles and the object of'the invention is to provide a clip which can be readily applied on the neck of a bottle and when so applied will receive and hold tickets given in exchange for the material delivered.
A further object of the invention is to provide an inexpensive and durable clip for the above purpose.
With the above objects in view the invention consists essentially in a split spring band and a strip secured to the band and having the ends thereof turned outwardly and curved apart, the parts being arranged and constructed as hereinafter more particularly described and later pointed out in the appended claim.
Figure 1 represents a perspective view of the device in use. Fig. 2 represents a vertical sectional view through the band showing the strip in side elevation.
In the drawinglike characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in each figure.
1 represents a split spring band designed to be applied on the neck 2 of a bottle 3.
TA metallic strip 4 is passed over the body of the band and securely fastened thereto in any suitable mannervsuch as by a rivet 5. The ends of the strip are riveted together as indicated at 6 and turned outwardly, the extrenities being flared apart as shown at? an 8.
It will be noticed that the outwardly turned'ends of the strip lie horizontally one above the other and that the lower outwardly turned end portion 8 extends beyond the upper outwardly turned portion 7.
The strip is preferably constructed from spring metal so that tickets 9 canbe readily inserted and held between the extremities of the clip. y
We might here remark that in cases where milk or such like material is delivered in bottles it is customary forthe householder to put the tickets in the bottle or put them under the bottle when the empty bottles are left outside for the milkman.
There is always the possibility of the tickets being lost and in colder countries a good deal of trouble is given the milkman by the tickets being frozen in the bottle or to any adjoining structure on which they may have been left. With this invention the householder simply places the clip on a returned or empty bottle and leaves it out for the milkman with the tickets in the clip.
The milkman has simply to withdraw the tickets, remove the clip from the empty bottle and place it on the full bottle which he leaves. This" can be done very quickly as the spring band can be easily withdrawn from or applied on the neck of a bottle and no trouble is experienced in withdrawing the tickets.
What we claim as our invention is:
A ticket clip for bottles comprising a split spring band receiving the neck of the bottle, a strip riveted to the body of the band and surrounding a portion of the same, and having the endsthereof turned outwardly at right angles and lying horizontally one above the. other and riveted together and having their extremities flared upwardly and downwardly respectively and designed to receive between them the ticket, the lower outwardly turned end portion extending beyond the upper outwardly turned portion, as and for the purpose specified.
Signed at Winnipeg this 28th day of January 1914.
JOHN EDGAR STEWART. WILLIAM ALEXANDER RUSSELL.
