TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:

Be it known that I, LEVI HERE, of West 'Lampeter, in the county'of Lancaster, and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Device for Attaching Traces to Vehicles; and I do hereby declare that thefollowing is a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings making a part ofthis specification, in whichi Figure 1 shows the spring-box attachment on the end of the single-tree, and the trace portion detached.

The nature ofthis invention consists in.providing a simple means to hitch a horse into a vehicle without twisting the traces or making the adjustment by the buckle on the traces or extra holes in the leather ofthe same, either of which modes is tedious and injurious to thetraces. This is prevented by my metallic box and trace-plate.

To enable others skilled in the art-,1 will, further explain that which is clearly shown by the drawings, so

The other end of the trace-plate E is perforated for rivets, by which it is fastened to the'end' of the trace Fl This shallow case or box A may be fastened on the end of the single-tree, (one on each end,) either by a screw, D, or a cupformed ilange, D, to embrace the end of the single-tree, and afiixed through the flange by one or more'serews. This trace connect1on may be made out of brass, iron, or other metal, and is as neat in appearance as it is durable and readily operated for hitching, unhitching, or for adjusting the length of the traces.

The operation is easily understood and performed. Thetrace-plate is inserted, the thumb-latch raised,
