Definitions
- This invention consists in applying wood to the knob of a stove-door, whereby the door may be handled without danger of burning the fingers by bringing them in contact with heated iron, as will be hereinafter more fully described.
- Figure 1 represents a side view of the stove-door.
- Figure 2 is an edge view of the same, showing the knobwith the wood attached.
- a small projecting knob cast on the door As the ;stove-do0rs are usually made there is a small projecting knob cast on the door, as seen at a, fig. 2. It is usually a thin narrow plate, the thickness and length only being seen in the drawing. It is 'sufliciently wide to be handled by the thumb and finger, but it is usually of the same temperature as the stove-door, and consequently dangerous to-touch, except with the tongs or some other implement, so that opening a stove-door for the introduction of fuel, or for other purposes, is a task attended with either considerable risk or trouble. I By covering the iron projecting knob with the wooden knob A, as shown in the drawing, the task of opening a stove-door is rendered both safe and easy.

CHARLES H. ROBERTS, OF TROY, NEW YQRK.
Letters Patent .No. 69,841, dated October 15, 1867.
IMPROVEMENT IN HANDLES FOR STOVE-DOORS.
@112 saint mantis in time Enters fiatent mu making part at fig: same.
TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN Be it known that I, CHARLES HQROBERTS, of Troy, in the county of Rensselaer, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Stoves; and I do hereby'declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification. F
. This invention consists in applying wood to the knob of a stove-door, whereby the door may be handled without danger of burning the fingers by bringing them in contact with heated iron, as will be hereinafter more fully described.
Figure 1 represents a side view of the stove-door.
Figure 2 is an edge view of the same, showing the knobwith the wood attached.
Similar letters of reference indicate like parts.
As the ;stove-do0rs are usually made there is a small projecting knob cast on the door, as seen at a, fig. The wood being a non-conductor of heat never gets too hot to handle with the fingers, thus oiiviating a very serious dilficulty in the management of stoves. A slot is made in the base of the wooden knob, which allows it to he slipped over the iron, as seen in the drawing, when the iron ring 0 is slipped over both wood and iron, thus holding them together. This makes the connection permanent.
Those who have blistered their fingers in opening stove-doors heretofore will appreciate the value of this improvement.
What-I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The wooden knob A, constructed as described, slotted to fit over the metal knob a cast on the stove-door, and held in position by means of the ring B, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
CHAS. H. 'ROBERTS.
