UNITE STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHANNES P. I-IEISER, OF DENVER, COLORADO.
SUSPENDERS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 697,916, dated April 15, 1902.
Application filed November 7, 1901. Serial No. 81,501. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J OHANNES P. HEISER, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Denver, in the county of Arapahoe and State of Colorado, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Suspenders; and I do declare the following to be a full,
clear, and exact description of the invention,.
such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to improvements in suspenders; and it consists of certain novel features, which will be understood by reference to the accompanying drawings, in which is illustrated an embodiment thereof.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a pair of suspenders equipped with my improvements. Fig. 2 is a fragmentary rear view, the parts being shown on a larger scale. Fig. 3 is a similar view showing a modified form of construction. Fig. 415 aperspective view in detail, illustrating a feature of my improved device.
The same reference characters indicate the same parts in all the views.
Let the numeral 5 designate the shoulderstraps, which, as shown in the drawings, are continuous or formed from a single piece of material which is movable in a metal part or loop 6, with which is also connected a bifurcated strap 7 forming separated hearings, through which the girdle-cord or suspenderend strap 8 is passed and arranged to slide freely. This strap 8 is provided with buttonholes at its extremities 8, adapted to be connected with two of the front buttons of the trousers. This girdle-strap is also provided with two buttonhole parts 9, which are slidable on the strap and adapted to be connected with the other two front buttons of the tronsers. The strap 8 passes through bearings or supporting parts 10, connected with the front extremities of the shoulder-straps. The girdle 8 between the two bearings of the strap or connection 7 is connected with a loop 12,
which also forms the support for the rearstrap 13, in whose extremities are formed buttonholes adapted to engage the rear buttons of the trousers.
The part 7, having the two separated bearings or loops 7, through which the strap or cord 8 passes, is an important feature, since it permits a different and better action of the cord 8 than can be otherwise obtained.
In Fig. 3 the position of the part 7 is reversed; but the action or working of the parts is'similar to that shown in Figs. 1 and 2. In this case a loop 14 is connected with the part 6. The strap or cord 8 passes through thisloop and is then drawn upward between the two bearings 7 instead of downward, as shown in Fig. 1.
The preferred construction of the part 7 is shown in Fig. 4, though it must be under stood thatl am not limited thereto. As shown in this view, the said part is formed from an integral piece of material cut out at the center to allow the cord or strap 8 to be drawn through between the bearing parts on opposite sides when the piece of material is doubled. One extremity '7" of this piece of material is then bent over the adjacent extremity 7 and fastened in any suitable manner, as by sewing or riveting.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is 1. In suspenders, the combination with the shoulder-straps, a girdle strap or cord connected therewith in front, and a rear strap, of a suitable connection between the lower extremity of the shoulder-straps in the rear, the girdle-strap and the rear strap, said connection comprising a bifurcated part 7 having two separated bearings for the girdle strap, and a loop through which the girdlestrap passes between the separated bearings, substantially as described 2. In suspenders, the combination with the shoulder-straps, a girdle strap or cord connected therewith in front, and a rear strap, of a bifurcated part, a loop 6 connecting the bifurcated part with the shoulder-straps in the rear and provided with two separated bearings which the girdle strap or cord engages, and a loop 12 connecting the rear strap engages, and a loop 12 connecting the girdlewith the girdle strap or cord between the strap between the said bearings with the rear bearings of the bifurcated part.
3. In suspenders, the combination with a 5 continuous shoulder-strap part, a loop 6 in the rear through which the said part passes and in which it is movable, a rear strap and a girdle strap or cord, of a bifurcated part connected with the said loop 6 and having no two separated bearings which the girdle-strap strap, substantially as described. 7 In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
JOHANNES P. HEISER.
