WILLIAM S. HUNKINS, OF MERRIAM PARK, MINNESOTA.
GARMENT-SUPPORTER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 700,498, dated May 20, 1902.
ig a app icatio fild DBOBml-JBI 2 1 190 Serial No. 87,542. Divided and this application filed April 5, 1902 Serial No. 101,460. (No'modeh) To all whom it may concern: Be it known that I, WILLIAM S. HUNKiNs, a citizen of the United States, residing at Merriam Park, county of Ramsey, Minnesota, have invented certain new and-useful Im! provements in Garment-Supporters,- of which the followingis a full, clear, and exact description.
This application is a division from my former application, Serial No. 87,542, filed December 28', 1901, for garment-supporters.
My invention relates to garment-support ers.
The main object of my invention is to provide means for supportingthe nether garments which shall be invisible when in use. Furthermore, the construction is such that a shirt or shirt-waist may be worn in the usual way to cover the upper portion of said garinent-supporter, which shirt or shirt-waist will be properly held in place by the coaction of certain parts of construction hereinafter described.
Figure 1 is a perspective View of a garinentsupporterembodying my invention.. Fig. 2 is an elevation of a detail. Fig. 3 is a cross-section of fragmentary-portions.
In the drawings, AA are suspenders or straps adapted to go over the shoulders of the wearer.
B is a band to which the straps A A may be attached,- preferablyby means of buttons l), secured to the inside of said band. These buttons are preferably provided with studs on the opposite side of said band, said studs being designed to receive a buttonhole-loop F, carried by the nether garment.
The garment-supporter when adjusted in place assumes the position approximately shown in Fig. 1. The nether garment is secured to the band B by means of the buttonhole-loop F, which engages the proper stud E. Before the nether garment is attached, however, the shirt or shirt-waist may be adjusted andthat portion of it, J, adjacent to the stud E may be grasped by the buttonholeloop F, so that it will be held between the loop and the stud, the portion F performing the double function of securing the nethergarment G to the band B and also holding the lower portion of the shirt or shirt-waistJ in place.
The part in the drawings designated bythe letter J is meant to illustrate a portion of the "shirt or shirt-waist, but in a conventional manner only. When the supporter is in use,
' the shirt-waist covering it renders it invisible.
It is preferred that the button D and stud E shall be mounted together. By this con= struction theiweight of the garments is sus-' tained in an efficient and easy manner. The buttonhole-loops may be made of metal, substantially as shown in Fig. 2, and attached to the garment by pins, if desired, in the proper position.
Manifestly many changes in all directions .may be made in details of the garment-supporter shownwithout departing from the spirit and'scope of my invention.
What I claim is- 1. As'an article of manufacture, a garment supporter comprising shoulder-straps, a band adaptedto encircle the wearer, a button for connectingsaid shoulder -straps and said band, an extension for said button to the out side of said band to which outside garments may be attached, substantially as described.
2. As an article of manufacture, a garmentadapted to coact with a suspender loop, a
stud projection from said band adjacent said button and a buttonhole-loop coacting with said stud and adapted to be attached to a nether garment, substantiallyas described. 1 Signed at Minneapolis, Minnesota, this 24th day of March, 1902. WILLIAM S. BUNK-INS.
