(No Model.)
THE uonms PETERS w, PHOTO-LIYHO., WASHINGTON, u c.
'llNrTED STATES PATENT @rricnt FLOYD C. WILLIAMS, OF SMITHDALE, MISSISSIPPI.
BEDSTEAD-BRACE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No; 621,397, dated March 21, 1899.
Application filed May 7,1898. Serial No. 680,082. (No model.)
To ctZZ whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, FLOYD G. WILLIAMs, a citizen of the United States, residing at Smithdale, in the county of Amite and State of Mississippi, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bedstead-Braces; and I do declare the following to be afull, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The invention has relation to bedsteadbraces; and'the object is to provide a device of this character which shall be simple of construction, durable in use, comparatively inexpensive of production, and by means of which the side rails of the bed may be firmly secured to the posts of the headboard and easily and quickly disengaged therefrom.
WVith this object in view the invention consists in certain features of construction and combination of parts, which will be hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a side view of a portion of a bedstead, illustrating the application of my invention; and Fig. 2 is a detail perspective view of the device removed from the bedstead and showing its spring-jaws separated from its bracket.
In said drawings, 1 denotes the posts of the headboard of a bedstead, and 2 the side rails of a bedstead.
3 denotes my improved brace, which consists of a bracket 4, secured by screws 5 to the posts at the lower edge of the side rail and provided with a head 6, upon which rests the lower edge of the side rail. This bracket is provided with an eye 7 near its lower end, which receives the spring-jaws 8 of the link 9, the opposite end of the link being formed with a loop 10, that engages an eye 11, and a plate 12, secured to the lower edge of the side rail.
- 13 denotes a clamping-ring that is adapted to hold the spring-jaws in compressed position.
In assembling the parts the spring-jaws are placed opposite to the entrances and the eye of the bracket and are then compressed into said bracket. The ring is now forced forward and will hold the jaws in compressed position. To disengage the device, thering is slipped rearward and the jaws will spring out of the eye of the bracket.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination with a bracket consisting of a vertical portion adapted to be bolted or otherwise secured to the posts of a bedstead, and having at its upper end a lateral exten sion 6 adapted to support the side rails of the bedstead, and having near its lower end an eye 7, of a plate 12 adapted to be bolted to the under edge of the side rails of the bedstead and having an eye formed in one end, of a link having a loop at one end that engages the eye of the plate, and having diver ging spring-jaws 8 formed With inwardly-projecting ends adapted to engage the eye 7 of the bracket, and a ring 13 adapted to be slid upon the spring-jaws and hold the inwardly projecting ends in said eye 7, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
, F. O. WILLIAMS.
