To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, ALBERT G. MCLAURIN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Burns, in the county of Smith and State of Mississippi, have invented a new and useful Bed- Rail I-Iolder, of which the followingis a specifcation.

The invention relates to improvements in bed rail holders.

The object of the present invention is to provide a simple and inexpensive device adapted to prevent the side rails of a bedstead from spreading, to keep the slats thereof from falling out, and to maintain the bedstead perfectly tight and in condition to successfully withstand any of the strains incident to its use without becoming loosened.

The invention consists in the construction and novel combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the claim hereto appended.

In the drawings-Figure l is a perspective view of a bed rail holder constructed in accordance with this invention. Figs. 2 and 3 are detail perspective views of the side rail and slat irons, the slat irons being reversed.

Like numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures of the draw- 1ngs.

1 designates a side rail iron, constructed of suitable metal and provided on its inner face with vertical side fianges or ribs, adapted to hold the hook portions 3 away from the side rail to allow a transverse bar or head 4 of a slat iron 5 to be engaged with the said hook portions. The body of the side rail iron is provided with openings to receive screws or other fastening devices for securingthe said iron to the side rail of a bedstead, and the upper portion of the side rai] iron is provided with the said integral hook portions 3, which extend upward and are separated by an intervening recess 6, and which have curved grooves or openings 7 at their inner sides to receive the head or transverse bar 4t, which is rounded at its inner engaging face.

The slat iron is constructed of suitable metal and consists of a securing plate provided with countersunk perforations for the reception of screws or other fastening de- Vices, an outwardly extending neck S, and the said transverse bar or head 4, arranged at the outer end of the neck. The ribs or anges 2 hold the hook portions 3 a sucient distance away from the side rail to allow the head or transverse bar 4 of the slat iron to be readily inserted in engagement with the hooks. The bottom of the recess 6 is rounded, and the lower face of the neck 8 is rounded at 9 to conform to the configuration of the bottom of the recess 6, and to cause the parts to tit snugly when in engagement.

The side rail holder is adapted to be arranged at each end of a central or intermediate slat to prevent the side rails of the bedstead separating; and the slat to which it is applied is placed in its position first. The other slats of the bedstead are then placed in position, and they prevent any jars or strains forcing the side rails together and springing the side rail and bed slat irons out of engage-l ment. When it is desired to separate the bedstead the slat which is provided with the bed rail holder is taken out last.

It will be seen that the bed rail holder is simple and inexpensive in construction, that it is capable of preventing the side rails of a bed from spreading, and is adapted to keep a bedstead from becoming loose at the joints.

Changes in the form, proportion and the minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of this invention.

The side rail iron and the slat iron are each constructed of a single piece of metal and are preferably cast, the parts of each being formed integral with one another.
