TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:

Beit known that I, HARVEY L. BYRD, of the city and county of Baltimore, and State of Maryland, ha ve invented a new and imp'roved Kindling Arrangement for Stoves; and I do hereby declare the following to\bca full, clear, and exact description of the same, snfiicient to enable one skilled in the art to which the invention appertains to -fniake use of it, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part .of this specification, and'in which my invention is represented by a vertical central section. A basket to contaiii kindlingijs hinged under the grate of the stove, so as, when elevated and the contents ignited, to startthe fire in the coalschamber of the stove.

In the drawings, A is he fire-chamber of the stove, and B the grate; O is the ash-pit, T) is the ash-drawer, E isa. basket made of cast or wrought iron, and hinged at F, beneath the rear end of the grate B. The forward end of the basket E is loweredto be filled with kindling wood orothcr material and then raised its forward edge being retained by a catch, G. The basket E,wi'llbe made of snfiicient size to contain the required amount of kindling, and this amount will difi'er with: its character and somewhat with the size of the ,fire-ehambcr and the quantity and quality of the coal in common use in the district for which the stove is manufactured. It may be desirable that the rim of the basket may about correspond with the margin of the grate, or it may occupy a more limited but central position. I have shown the basketas detachable and movable, the hinging end lying upon the pintle of the hinge F, and sustained in front by a catch, G. The basket or kindling may be attached tot-lie ash-pan, an dbe thus introduced or withdrawn at pleasure. Having described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

A kindling basket beneath a'stove, grate, or furnace-grate, substantially as described.
