TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:

Be it known that I, GEGRGE" R. MOORE, of Lyons, in-the county of Clinton, and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Stoves; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, in which i Figure 1 is a perspective view of an ordinary cylinder-stove with rnyimprovements applied.

Figure 2 is a vertical section'of the same.

The object of my invention is to improve the mode of constructing stoves and heaters with an open passage into the fire-chamber a lit-tle above the grate upon which the fire rests, and quite below the ordinaryfeed-door for fuel. 1 v

A is the door for supplying coal to the stove, (feed-door.) B B are the doors for opening and closing the passage to the fire-chamber below the feed-door and above the grate. G is a diaphragm to keep the coal'from falling out at the lower doorway. D is the framework for the doors. E is the hearth in front of the passage to the fire and of the doors B B. F is a rod or bar extending horizontally across the passage to the fire, and near the top part of this opening, for the purpose of serving as a fulcrum whenever it is desirable to use it in that way, by passing in a pronged fire-poker or temporary grate, or other instrument, to keep the fire and coal up while the ashes and cinder are emptied from. the ordinary grate, which is below it. G represents a temporary grate extending across the fire-chamber over the fulcrum F, as before described. H is the ordinary grate.

I'Ieretofore I have depended upon the door of the passage, above the grate to the fire-chamber, to serve as hearth when opened; and it has opened from the top, being hinged at the bottom. I now make a regular hearth, and place sliding doors upon it, as seen iirfigs. 1 and 2, E.

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim therein as new, and desire to secure by-Letters Patent, is

1. In a heating-stove, I claim the hearth E, constructed as shown, and applied substantially in the manner and for the purposes specified.

2. I also claim the baror fulcrum F, when used as a part of a stove or heater, substantially in the manner and for the purpose herein set forth.
