UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE RODNEY MOORE, OF LYONS, IOWA.
FIRE-CHAMBER CLEARER.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 45,933, dated January 17, 1865.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, GEORGE RODNEY MOORE, of Lyons, in the county of Clinton, in the State of Iowa, have invented a new and useful Mode of Clearing Fire-Chambers 5 and I do hereby declare that the following isa full and exact description thereof, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
The object of my invention is to provide for removing conveniently the cinders and ashes from the lower part of the fire-chamber without removing at the same time the fire and unburned fuel that may be in it, so doing the tire may be perpetuated any length of time.
Figures 1 and 2 are longitudinal vertical sections. A is the ash'pit; B B, the external parts or the fire-chamber. O is a movable part of the fire-chamber, connected by the lever D to the grate E, which has a lug, F, jointed to a draw-rod, G. H shows the side supports of c in the fire-chamber.
Fig. 3 is a front view of 0, and shows how it is jointed to the grate at will by the lever D upon the pivot a and journal I) to the grate E.
It will be seen by Fig. 2 that when the grate is turned upon its journals 3 the movable piece or clamp c is raised in its place in the fire-chamber, guided upon H by a slide, 9, and that no opening is made from the inside of the fire-chamber to the ashpit below, but upon one side of the grate, and that the side which is dropped down and pushed back again at pleasure by the rod G. Thus the operator can by the rod G discharge at will as much or little of the contents at any time in the firechamber into the ash pit, but always from the lower part of the-fire-chainber, as the part of the grate that moves upward is prevented by 0 from making any opening into the fuel toward the ash-pit. I
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim therein as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The attachment of the plate or clamp 0, or its equivalent, to the grate E, substantially in the manner and for the purpose herein set forth.
GEO. R. MOORE. Witnesses:
