-TO ALL WHOM 1T MAY CONCERN:
Beit known thutv, PETER YARVHQ of innrsuw, in the county of Kosciuslio, und State of Indiana, have invented n new und useful Improvement in BrieieM-uchine; :rnddo hereby declare that the following iso full, clear, und eXnct description of the construction und operation of tho sume', reference being;r had to the annexed drawings und letters of reference marked thereon, melting n. pnrt of this 'speeiiicutioin inwhichigure is u plan view ot' my ninchine.
Figure 2 is :tu elevation of thc sanne.
Figure 3 is n plan view of thc gearing used for driving,i the machine.
AFiure is :L sectional clevntion of one of the cams used for operating the dies und the door against which the brick is pressed.
The nature of iny invention consists, tirst, in the use oi' curved arms, ett-nchodto 'the vorticul s'nnt't of thc mixingdiox, operated in comhinution with u winged or corrugated picker, for the purpose oi niixing und forcing the clay into the moulds, und carrying the stone und extraneous matter into u sui'tuhle box, having u sliding door, from whichit muy be i'enioveil, und in the use ot' u control stntion urrungcd :rs tov operate user' .ry drum, to which :are attached coms, so es of dies working in the rim of nrevolvingj'r wheel so constructed as to allow suit# able moulds to be placed in its periphery, und also have sliding doors for ope-ni. ,j und shutting seid moulds, by ineens of suitnbie coins, for the purpose of allowing the cluy'to venter the moulds und the. pressed brick to -be forced out upon n suitnble ilu-.ige frein which the bricl; muy be removed.
'i1-he object ci' my invention, is to construct u machine for the bunk, and press said hrici( hard enough to ruck up on thel yard without the necessity of being dried by thc sun, and to urrungethe cuius for operating the dies inside of theinouids, for the purpose ot' pressing the brick with' the least possible unio'unt of power.
i To enuble others skilled in the nrt to innigeY und use my inyention, will describe its construction und operation.
A B is the substnntinl'frunxe, which supports niy invention, und is inode of any material desired, und the two beds placed `such u distance apart us to allow the gearing 5, 5, 7, 8, to oper-nte freely. J shows the shaftnnd 15 the drum which support the revolving:r rim K, figs. l und 2. This rim hus the ilu-nge L, for receiving the brick when forced out of the niouldsm, mudo in seid rim, andV also guides for supporting the sliding doors m', so that they muy be opened by ineens of cum t, when it is required to till the moulds, shown et m, with cluy, und shut them, ut the proper time for pressing the brick, by ineens of cern X. By this arrangement, the doors m, will be open when passing theniixing box, und ut the opposite side ci' the rim l,:rs seen uit tig. 2, und will he closed nt m" forthc purpose oi' allowing' the briciis to be pressed. n nrc the dies, operatingl in moulds fm, end having the chunks o rigidly attached und passing through suite-blc holes mudo in the guides P.' The Shanks o nro rende long enough to properly work the dies n when' the cnrns X, Y, Z, 35, strike against thc frictionrollers Q, pivoted to the inner ends orp seid shrinks. i The cams X Z are mede eduiustuble by 'means of the keys i 4, which ure made wider at the top than the bottom, by which ineens one com muy he made to move the dies adjoining the mixing-box such u distance from the periphery of the rim K as muy 'he necessary in order to ll the moulds m with the desired amount of clay for melting brick of different thicknesses, und the other com to move the (li-es n the proper distance to press brick of such n thickness es will correspond with the amount of cla-y received into the mould. The cum di is used for drawing iu the dies n after they have been forced out by means of the cem Y. And to accomplish this, u projection or rim, 2, is inode on the lower edge, as seen at gl,
for the purpose of passing overVv the pin 3, figs. 1 `ztnd 4. is the shaft which supports the mixing apparatus F,
arranged to operate in the box C. Thcfmixcrsl'F are curved as seen et iig. 1, and are made to run in thc direction indicated by dart 19, by whichV ineens the clay muy be both mixed und forced into moulds m. The corrugated picker E, iig. 1, is made lthe sinne height es the mixers F, und is very importent in carrying stone, Ste., into the box'D, vfrom which it may be removed by means ofthe door G. If'this picker, or a. similnr device, was not used in connection with my machine, it could .not be operated, for the stone and extraneous mutter would either stop or break' the seme.
Inu-hing hricl; of dump eluy, us it is' teken frein 62mm e Operation.
The power muy be applied to the top of shaft J, which will cause the rim K to move in the direction shown by dart 20, andthe picker in the direction indicated by the dart 21. The clay should be putin box C, after which the bricks can be token oii` of' the rim L as fust'as pressed out of the moulds 111. The door G may be raised from time to time ,so as to remove the stone from box D, when required.
Having thus fully described my machine, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- 1. The combination of the mixers F, picker E, and moulds m, sulfistantiiilly :is set forth.
2. The cams X, Y, Z, in combination with dioS oz, moulds m, guides P, und rim L, suiismntinlly :is and for the purpose set forth :md described.
