Description

' @anni i @fue THOMAS H'. BAKER, OF SPRINGFIELD', OHIO.
Letters Patent No. 87 ,235, dated February 23, 1869.
IBIPROVED LEACHING-.VAT.
'.lflie Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of tha Same.
To all lwhom it may concern l Beit known that I, THOMAS H. BAKER, of Spring* Iieldin the county of Glark, and State of Ohio, have invented' a new and useful Improvement in Leaching- Vats; and I do herebydeclare the following Ato be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference i being had to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a' perspective view of my invention. Figure 2 is a side elevationof the same, showing the vat after dumping the spent ashes.
Figure 3 is an elevation,`showing the clasps and latch for holding the trap-bottomtogether.
My invention consists in a leaching-vat, for leaching ashes or other substances, constructed with a trap-bottom, and mounted upon an adjustable track, so that when the ashes, Snc., have become spent, tbe vat may, with little troubleor loss of time, be removed along the track, and the spent contents discharged into a cart, or otherwise disposed of as may be convenient.
My invention will be understood by referring to th accompanying description and drawings.
A A is the frame-work, supporting the vat C C during the operation of leaching.
B B are parallel tracks, hinged ats s to theframe A, to permit them to be lowered or raised, rto run the vat upon, as shown in gs. l and 2.
The vat C is constructed of four pieces. The two .sidesqof the vat together, preventing the pressure of the ashes from forcing them apart.
The latches I K, at the bottom of the two sides, securely hold them together in that direction. The constrction and manner of holding the said sides are shown in g. 3.
Underneath the vat is the curved drain G, to carry o ofi" the lye, 85o'.
The operation of my invention is as follows:
The vat is iilled 'with ashes. After they have been leached they are worthless, and have to be removed to be replaced by fresh.
lo do this in the old process, it was necessary to v`have them dug o'ut by spades, and frequently the tub or vat was required to be taken to pieces, at considerable trouble and loss of time.
B B is previously raised to any required height, and a cart ready to receive its contents placed underneath, as represented in iig. 2. n
When the vat reaches the point required to drop its load in the cart, the latches I K are pulled apart. The
mass acts`like a wedge, pushing and opening them the full width. Then it drops almost entire into the cart, when it is removed away.
The vat is then rolled back to the frame A, and the two end-pieces D D are drawn back to place, and secured by the latches, as shown in iig. 3. The vat is then ready to receive a fresh supply of ashes, and the process repeated when required.
Having described my invention,
What I claim as new, is-
1. A leaching-vat, O, constructed with a trapbot tom, substantially as described, and mounted upon rollers E E, so as' to travel upon a track-Way, for the purpose set forth.
2. In combination with a leaching-vat, O, substantially as described, the adjustable track-way B, as and for the purpose set forth..
THOMAS H. BAKER Witnesses: l
GEO. W. DAME,
SAMUEL LEPPEL.
My invention obviates all this'diiiculty, as it can, inI
