PLACKET-CLOSER.

' lowing is a full, clear, and exact description thereof.

My invention relates to devices for closing plackets in ladies dress-skirts; and it consists in certain peculiarities of construction and combination of parts, as will be fully set forth and subsequently claimed.

In the drawings,-Figure 1 is a plan view of my device, partly broken away to better illustrate certain details of construction. Fig. 2 is an edge view, with part of the device removed, on the section-line 2 2 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a detail sectional view on the line 3 3 of Fig. 1, looking from below toward the upper ends of the device; and Fig. et is a view of the parts shown in the preceding figure brought together in the fastened condition.

Referring to the drawings, A B represent the two sections of my device, which are primarily thin, flat, elongated strips, preferably of metal, with their upper ends shaped, as by bending or stamping, so as to form a hook or catch on one part for engagement with a loop or socket on the other part. The lower ends of these strips are united by a rivet or pivot a, there being a washer Z9 interposed between said lower ends to keep the sections A B the proper distance apart. either a single separate piece or, if preferred, one or both of the said strips may be increased in thickness at this point, this being immaterial as long as the said sections are properly separated.

In the preferred form of my device illustrated in the drawings each of the sections A B is covered for the greater portion of its length with a casing O, of suitable textile fabric, similar to the covering of dress-stays, leaving edges 0 for convenience in securing my device along the edges of a dress-placket.

forming another flat hook E. The section B is made from a strip having an integral laterally-extended part at its upper end of preferably greater length and greater vertical width than that of the corresponding extension on the other strip, but bent over, as shown at F, so as to be parallel with the main portion of the section B and formed with a vertical slot, as shown at d, toreceive the tongue or hookD on the section A when the two parts are brought together and fastened, as indicated in Fig. 4. When the device is secured along the edges of a dress-skirt placket and the sections A and B are thus brought together and fastened, the opening of the placket is concealed and held closed and yet capable of be ing instantly opened when necessary. The described hook E is for the purpose of receiving and holding the skirt-belt.

By the use of my device buttons, hooks and eyes, and safety-pins may be dispensed with, and the wearer can always feel certain that the placket is properly closed and that the belt, if such is worn, will not rise above its proper place.

My device may be made without the belthook E, if preferred; but ordinarily the same will be found a convenient and useful adj unct, as the belt will conceal the upper fastening ends D F of my device, and the hook F, if that is used, may of course be covered with any suitable fabric or ornamented in any desirable way.

If preferred, in any given instance my sections A B need not be covered, but may be provided with series of perforations therethrough at suitable intervals, as indicated by the small circles e e, to enable the device tobe readily stitched to the edge of the placket; but ordinarily the described covering will be found more convenient for attachment.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. A placket closer, comprising two long vertical sections pivoted together at their lower ends and there separated so that said sections will move past each other without contact, one of said sections having an integral lateral tongue bent back outwardly over said section adjacent to its upper end so as not to substantially project beyond the adjacent vertical edge of said section and provided with a slot on the line of said bend, and the other section having a similar integral lateral tongue bent back inwardly under said section adjacent to its upper end so as not to substantially project beyond the adjacent ver tical edge of said section and adapted for engagement with the slotted tongue of the other section.

2. A placket-closer, comprising two long sections pivoted together at their lower ends, and there separated so that the outer section will move past the inner section without contact therewith, said sections having fastening means at their upper ends, and the outer section having an outwardly-extending hook at its upper end projecting downwardly parallel to said outer section.

3. A placket-closer, comprising two members pivoted together at their lower ends to overlie one another and having locking means at their upper ends, one of the members having a hook which extends above the other member and which is adapted to engage a skirt-belt.
