MORRIS H. GERSTLE, OF NEW YORK, N. Y., ASSIGNOR TO THOMAS P.

COMBINED HOSE-SUPPORTER DEVICE AND CORSET-STEEL LOCK.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 790,958, dated May 30, 1905.
Application filed January 18, 1905. $erial No. 241,640.
T 0 all whmn it may concern.-
Be it known that I, MoRRIs H. GERsTLE, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York city, borough of Manhattan, in the county and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful lmprovements in a Combined Hose-Supporter Device and Corset- Steel Lock; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in acombined hose-supporter device and corset-steel lock, and has for its object to provide a device of this description which may be readily applied to or removed from the person of the wearer without disturbing the corset-clasp; and with these ends in view my invention consists in certain details of construction and combination of parts, such as will be hereinafter fully set forth and then specifically designated by the claim.
In the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this application, Figure 1 is a front elevation illustrating my improvement as it appears when secured in position for use; Fig. 2, a detail perspective view of the preferred form of supporting-pad which I employ, and Fig. 3 an elevation showing a modified form of supporting-pad constructed in accordance with my improvement.
Similar numbers of reference denote like parts in the several figures of the drawings.
Heretofore devices of this description have been provided with two upwardly-projecting metallic fingers, adapted to embrace the shank of the stud of the corset-clasp on opposite sides, so as to prevent lateral displacement of the supporting-pad element; but my present improvement does away with one of these fingers and, in fact, does away entirely with any slot or gate to cooperate with the stud of the corset-clasp and will be best understood from the following description.
1 denotes thelower portion of any suitable corset, 2 the loop of the corset-clasp, and 3 the stud of said clasp, said loop and stud being shown at Fig. 1 in clasped condition, so as to secure the busks of the corset.
4. is a pad of any approved shape and constructed of any suitable material, the pad shown at Figs. 1 and 2 being preferably made of thin sheet metal. 5 is a buckle and 6 a waist-strap secured, respectively, to the upper edges of this metal pad and on opposite sides thereof, whereby said pad may be suspended around the waist of the wearer, and 7 represents hose-supporting tapes, which depend from the bottom of this pad. 8 is a tongue which projects upwardly from this metal pad 4, and in applying my improvement for use said tongue is inserted beneath the loop Qand between the corset-stud 3 and the edge of the. busk which carries the loop 2, so that it will be clear that said tongue is laterally confined by the stud and said busk, while it is likewise held securely beneath the loop itself. This tongue effectually prevents any lateral displacement of the pad after it has been suspended from the waist of the wearer, and it may be made wide enough so as to bind with considerable force against the stud and the busk which carries the loop, or it may be made so narrow that it may have a free vertical play,
thereby enabling the pad itself to respond readily to the movements of the wearer.
As I said before, the pad may be constructed of any suitable material, and therefore I have shown at Fig. 3 a hose-supporter device in which the pad element 9 is made from a suitable cloth fabric, while the metal tongue is secured directly to the middle portion of the upper edge of this pad 9.
When my improvement is in position for use with the tongue confined, as above described, it will be clear that the particular corset-clasp which cooperates with the tongue cannot become 'unfastened accidentally.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In a combined hose-supporter device and corset-steellock, the combination with the corset-steels, the stud carried by one of said steels and the loop carried by the other of said steels, said loop and stud constituting a corset-steel clasp, of a pad element, a buckle between said stud and the edge of the oppo- IO and Waist-strap secured to the upper opposite site steel. 1
edges of said element, hose-supporter tapes I-ntestirnony whereof I affix my signaturein depending from the bottom of said element, presence of two Witnesses.
5 and a single rigid finger projecting through- 1 out its entire length in the same plane with MORRIS (IERSTLE' said element and from the middle portion of Witnesses: the upper edge thereof, said finger adapted F. W. SMITH, J r., to be inserted beneath said loop and confined M. T; LONGDEN.
