To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, ADOLPH J.TR1B0LET, a citizen of the United States, residing at Bluffton, in the county of Wells and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hat-Displayers, of which the following is a specification.

The object of my present invention is to provide a device upon which hats may be attractively displayed, and itis intended especially for the use of retail merchants.

A device embodying my said invention will be first fully described, and the novel features thereof then pointed out in the claims.

Referring to the accompanying drawings, which are made a part hereof and onwvhich similar letters of reference indicate similar parts, Figure l is a perspective view of my device in its simplest form and containing a number of hats in the position they will occupy when being displayed by means thereof; Fig. 2, a perspective view of the device separately, on an enlarged'scale, showing extensible retaining-rods, one of said rods being shown in section; Fig. 3, a horizontal sectional view looking downwardly from the dotted line 3 3 in Fig. 4, showing the lower inember of the base, of the device in plan; Fig. 4, a sectional View as seen from the dotted line 4 4 in Fig. 3, and Fig. 5 a fragmentary sectional view as seen from the dotted line 5 5 in Figs. 3 and 4.

In said drawings the portions marked A represent the 1lower member of the base of the device, B the upper member of said base, and C the rods or side pieces.

The lower member A of the base is preferably Inade of wood, with transverse grooves a cut in its upper surface, as indicated by the heavilyshaded portions of Fig. 3. Said grooves in a narrower form extend to the periphery, thus forming the openings through which the rods C may pass.

' The top member B of the base is substantially a thin flat plate or board and is secured to the lower member A by screws or nails h. When the parts are in place, the grooves a become recesses in the base as a whole, which receive and hold the lower ends of the rods O. The depth of the grooves a in the bottom member A is such that when the upper member B is in place the rods C are held with confaces of the parts, so that said rods will be held by frictional contact with said surfaces to the positions to which they may be adjusted.

The rods C are bent at right angles at the points c and the horizontal portions extend into the recesses in the base. These horizontal portions at the extreme inner ends are tached thereto, so that when the parts are assembled together said rods will be held upright and not permitted to tip. Mounted upon the rods proper are tubes C', which fit closely onto the rods C, so that `they will be caused to remain in the positions to which they may be adjusted thereon by frictional contact.

My device as a whole is light, inexpensive, and convenient, and is well calculated to hold a number of hats in proper position to be conveniently seen and examined, and it is adjustable to various-sized hats, and in its preferred form is also adjustable to contain more or lesshats, thus adapting it to a large variety of requirements.

Having thus fully described my said invention, whatl claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

l. The combination, in a displayer for hats, of a base containing recesses, and vertical rods adapted to retain the hats Which may be placed thereon, said rods having horizontal portions upon which are transverse bends or parts whereby they may be maintained in upright position, said recesses'being formed so that the opposing sides of the parts of the base in which they are contained will irnpinge upon the portions of the rod therein contained, whereby said rods are retained by frictional contact in adj usted position, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.

2. A displayer for hats consisting of abase Vand vertical rods, said base being composed of the bottom member A having grooves a therein of considerable width for the greater portion of their length, but of a narrower width at the periphery of the base thus leaving perforations into which the rods may enter, while the inner portions are adapted to siderable firmness between the opposing surbent sidewise or have transverse pieces at-.
