UNITED STATES PATENT OFFIcE. Y
WEISEL BEALE, OF SHAWNEETOWN, MISSOURI.
NECKTI E-FASTENER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 300,192, dated June 10, 1884.
' Application filed February 21, 1884. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern..-
Be it known that I, WEIsEL BEALE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Shawneetown, in the county of Cape Girardeau and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in N ecktie-Fasteners, of which the following is a description.
Figure 1 is a view of the front side of the frame-piece A; Fig. 2 is a view of the rear side, and Figs. 3 and 4 are detail views of the plate B.
My in'vention'is in the nature of a necktiefastener, or device for securing a necktie to the collar-button of a shirt; and it consists in a slotted plate adapted to be secured to the pasteboard back or skeleton frame of the tie, in combination with a locking'lever and spring, whereby the device is made in a measure selfadjusting, and when fitted to place securely holds the necktie until it is required to be removed, which may be easily effected by throwing back the locking-lever, as hereinafter fully described.
In the drawings, Arepresents the back or skeleton frame of the tie, which back may be made, as usual, of pasteboard, rubber, or other desired material. To the back of this is secured, by clips at and stitches b, a thin sheetmetal plate, B, which has at its upper edge and in the middle thereof a slot, 0.
G is a locking-lever, whose upper end is pro vided with a bevel-faced hook, d, and whose lower end projects below the plate 13. The fulcrum of this lever is a headed pin, 6, which is made adj ust-able to any of the series of bearings d d d in the plate B, and all of which slots open into another vertical slot, (1, having an opening, cl, at its top end, which is large enough to permit the head of the fulcrum-pin e to pass through and allow the lever 0 to be entirely detached from the plate.
D is a spring fixed to plate B, and bearing against the lever 0 above its fulcrum, forcing the hook of the lever against lip a, turned in from the edge of the slot, and which lip acts 5 i ately closes around the shank of the button 5 and holds it, thus forming an easy, quick, and
secure fastening, which may be released liy insorting the hand under the bow and deflecting the lever.
To hold the necktie a little higher or a little lower, according to the cut of the shirt-band or the collar, the fulcrum-pin e of the lever is adjusted in one of the bearings d (1 above or below, as the case may be.
This fastening device may be attached to any kind of necktie or bow, and may be removed from one tie and applied to another by any I one familiar with the use of a-needle.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is- 1. A necktie-fastener consisting of a plate having slot 0, in combination with a hooked lever, O, and a spring, D, as and for the purpose described.
2. The combination of the plate B, having slot 0, with inturned lip a, the lever O, and spring D, as and for the purpose described.
3. The plate B, having collar-button, slot 0, and bearings d d d for the fulcrunrpin, in
combination with the lever 0, having headed 8o fulcrum-pin e, and the spring D, substantially as and for the purpose described.
' WEISEL BEALE.
