Bow TIE RACK Filed May 25, I195e ATTE] RN EYS United States Patent- BOW TIE RACK Joseph Cass, Forty Fort, Pa. Application May 23, 1956, Serial No. 586,817
2 Claims. '(Cl. 211-100) This invention relates to racks for holding neckties, and 1n particular to a panel having a plurality of vertically spaced bars with upwardly extended ends hinged to the base wherein one end of the conventional tie clasp of a preformed bow tie may be forced over one of the bars. Ties so mounted may be displayed and retained which facilitates selecting and readily removing any tie by withdrawing it from one of the bars.
The purpose of this invention is to provide display and storage means for bow ties to prevent damage to ties resulting from being piled with other clothing in a drawer and also to provide means for storing and displaying preformed bow ties to facilitate selecting a necktie for a particular use.
Preformed bow ties are placed, with other clothing in a drawer of a chilfonier or the like after use and as such ties accumulate they are piled with other ties in an end of a drawer or the like and when it is desired to select a tie for particular use it is sometimesldiicult to see the entire tie and to withdraw the tie from the accumulation inthe drawer. With this method of storing preformed bow ties the ties are not only wrinkled but often damaged. With this thought in mind this invention contemplates providing a rack for preformed bow ties whereby the ties may be stored in an orderly manner and wherein a tie desired foruse may readily be selected from the other ties on the rack.
The object of this invention is, therefore, to provide a rack for storing and displaying a plurality of preformed bow ties whereby the ties are readily displayed to facilitate selection of a tie for a particular use.
Another object of the invention is to provide a display and storage rack for preformed bow ties wherein the rack is adapted to support the ties with each tie displayed and wherein ther ties are supported by conventional tie clasps of the ties so that modification of the parts of the ties is not required.
A further object of the invention is to provide a rack having horizontally positioned hinged elements for supporting preformed bow ties wherein the rack is adapted to be positioned on the inner surface of a door or the like in which the rack is of a simple and economical construction. l
With these and other objects and advantages in view the invention embodies a panel providing a backing with vertically spaced bars having upwardly extended ends hinged by the ends to the panel and in which a horizontally disposed bar is positioned on the lower end of the panel for supporting four-in-hand and other ties.
Other features and advantages of the invention will appear from the following description taken in connection with the drawing, wherein:
Figure l is a front elevational view of the improved preformed bow tie rack.
Figure 2 is a view similar to that shown in Fig. 1 showing a plurality of bow ties positioned on bars of the rack.
Figure 3 is a vertical section through the rack taken preformed bow ties suspended from bars of the rack.
ice
'2 on line 3--3 of Fig. 2 also showing the device with Figure 4 is an end elevational view of the rack with the ties omitted and with the tie supporting bars hanging verticallyv in full lines and extended outwardly in positions of supporting ties thereon in broken lines.
Referring now to the drawing wherein like reference characters denote corresponding parts, the preformed bow tie rack of this invention includes a board or panel 10 with a plurality of horizontally disposed bow tie receiving bars, such as the bars 11, 12, and 13, positioned on the upper portion of panel 10 with a lower bar 14 extended across the lower end thereof. The device is adapted'to be supported by fasteners or screws, such as the screws 15 and 16, which extend through openings through the upper end of the panel and also openings in a depending ange 17 on the outer edge of an upper section 18 which extends from the upper edge of the v panel.
The bars 11, 12, and 13 are provided with upwardly extended ends, such as the ends 19 and 2li of the bar 11, and the ends 19 and 20 are pivotally connected by hinges 21 and 22 to tabs 23 and 24, respectively, which are connected to and depend from the flange 17. Upwardly extended ends of the bars 12 and 13 are pivotally connected by hinges, such as the hinges 25 and 26, to arms 27 and 28 of a U-shaped member of channel-bar which is secured to the upper section 18 with fasteners, such as the rivets 29.
The bars 11, 12, 13, and 14 and also the flange 17 and upper surface ofthe section 18 may be chromium plated or the surfaces of the sections 17 and 18 may be coated with a thin sheet of chromium to improve the appearance of the tie rack.
The bar 14 is mounted on the lower edge of the panel with suitable fasteners, as indicated by the numerals 31 and 32.
With the parts designed and assembled as illustrated and described, the ends of the conventional tie clasps 33 of the preformed bow ties 30 are forced over the bars 11, 12, and 13, as shown in Fig. 3 whereby the ties are frictionally retained in position upon the bars. With the ties mounted in spaced relation one may readily select a tie for use without disturbing the other ties and the tie selectedvmay readily be withdrawn from the bar upon which it is positioned. To withdraw ties from the lower bars it is only necessary to move the upper bars outwardly pivoting the bars about the hinges.
The tie rack may be made of metal, plastic, or other suitable material.
Four-in-hand ties, as indicated by the numeral 34 may be suspended over the bar 14, as shown in Figs-2 and 3.
It will be understood that modifications, within the scope of the appended claims, may be made in the design and arrangement of the parts without departing from the spirit of the invention.
What is claimed is:
l. A preformed bow tie rack comprising a panel. the upper portion of which extends forwardly and the extended edge of the forwardly extended portion having a depending ange thereon, mounting screws extending through the depending iiange and panel, tabs connected to said depending flange, a U-shaped channel member connected to said upper portion rearwardly of said tabs and U-shaped bars having upwardly extended ends positioned with the ends hinged to said tabs and to said U-shaped channel member.
2. In a rack for temporarily mounting preformed bow ties, the combination which comprises a rectangularshaped panel having an upper section extending from the upper end thereof at right angles thereto, said upper section having a depending liange on the outer edge, mount- 3 ing screws extended through the flange and panel, supporting arms connected to said upper section in parallel relation to said depending flange, and vertically disposed tie mounting bars hinged to said supporting arms;
