The operation of my invention will be readily understood from .the foregoing description, taken in con nectiou with the drawings hereto To ZZ whom, it may concern.-
Be itknown that I, .Toi-IN H. MILLER, a citi- '.en of the United States, residing at Rising Sun, in the count-yor food and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Hoisting Apparatus, of which the following is a specificittion, reference being had to theaecompanying drawings.
This invention relates tohoisting-machines, I and more especially to that class of hoisting apparatus which is employed for raising` the i bents of barns and other buildings in course l ot' construction, and it has for its objects to produce a machine which shall possess superior advantages in point of simplicity, cheapness, ease of operation, and general eftieieney.
To this end it consists in Acertain improvei ments in the construction of the same, which will be hereinafter fully described,and particularly pointed out in the claims.
In the drawings hereto annexed, Figure I is a perspective view of my improved hoisting apparatus. Fig. 2 is a vertical longitudinal sectional View of the same. Fig. 3 is a vertii cal transverse sectional view taken through] the front standard. Fig. 4- is a front view. Fig. 5 is a sectional view on the line :r :r in Fig. `2, and Fig. 6 is a detail view.
The same letters refer to the same parts in all the `tigures.
A in the drawings designates the front standthe machines are required, which are arranged at the corners of the building, they being clamped upon the sills facing the bent which is to be raised. The points or prongs R prevent any possibility of displacement. The pulley-block A of each machine is made fast B B, connected. at their upper ends by means of transverse boltsO, passing through a spaeing-block, D, which is ]irovided with a series oi' vertical slots, lil, in which pulleys F F are joui-naled, as shown. In a hoisting-machine for raising bents, the front standard consisting of a pair of legs connected at the top by bolts passing through a spacing-block having a series of slots in which pulleys are journaled, in combination annexed. For manipulating a bent, two of to the bent, draft is applied to the other end cure by Letters Patent of the United States- IOC) legs apart, substantially as set with braces hinged near the upper ends of said legs, and means for clamping said legs and braces upon a sill, substantially as set forth.
2. The front frame or standard comprising a pair of legs connected near their upper ends by means of a spacing-block in which a series of pulleys is journaled, in combination with a tightening-bolt .arranged transversely in the lower ends of said legs, turning freely in one of the latter andworking in a nut countersunk in the other, and a transverse brace having a coiled spring which serves to force the said forth.

4. The combination, with the front stan dard, constructed substantially as set forth, and provided on its rear side, near its upper end, with eyes or perforated lugs having a transverse -hinge-rod, of thebraces hinged upon said rod,
rungs or cross-braces connecting the said braces, plates secured to the lower ends of said braces, and having inturned points or jprongs, a transverse tightening-bolt, and a transverse rod having a coiledspring serving t to force the lower ends of said braces apart,
substantially as setforth.
5. The combination, with the hinged braces having their lower ends connected by a tightening-bolt, of transverse rungs or cross-braces connecting the said braces, the lowerinost of said rungs being provided with slots working loosely upon their fasteningpins, whereby sufcient spring is given to the lower ends of the braces, as set forth.
6. The hereindescribed hoisting device, comprising,essentially, the front standard consisting of legs connected at their upper ends by a spacing-block having aseries of pulleys, braces hinged to the upper rear side of said standard, tightening-bolts connecting, respectively, the lowerends of the legs and braces, springs arranged to force the lower ends of said legs and braces apart, ablockhaving several pulleys, a hoisting-rope attached to the said blbck andreeved over its pulleys and over the pulleys at the upper end of the front standard, and a single guide-pulley adapted to be secured 'detachably in any desired position convenient to the draft or power, substantially as set forth.
