PANTALOON STRETGHER. 7 No. 279,262. Patented June 12,1883.

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
THEODORE LUCE, OF DETROIT, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF To EDMOND B. HARRINGTON, OF PO T HURON, MICHIGAN,
PANTALOON-STR ETCHER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 279,262, dated June 12, 1883.
Application filed April'lfl, 1883. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THEODORE LUOE, of Detroit, in the county of Wayne and State of Michigan, have invented new and useful Improvements in Devices for Strectching Pantaloons; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to devices for stretching pantaloons; and it consists in the peculiar construction, combination, and operation of parts, as more fully hereinafter described.
It frequently occurs that pantaloons knee, or stretch more over the knee than at any other point, occasioned by their drawing over the knee when the wearer is in sitting position, and this gives a baggy, untidy appearance when the wearer is standing.
The object of the present invention is to pro vide a light, inexpensive, and effective device by means of which a tension may be brought upon the pantaloons which will stretch the other parts correspondingly to the knee, so that the pantaloons, when worn, will appear as 116W.
Figure 1 is an elevation showing a pair of pantaloons under the operation of being stretched by the device. Fig. 2 is an elevation of the upper portion of the device detached. Fig. 3 is a vertical cross-section of the lower portion of the device or clamp.
In the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification, A represents a bar, through a series of holes, a, in which are passed the double loops b, corresponding in number to one-half of the suspender-buttons usually employed, and the whole so arranged that when the pantaloons are folded flat, as shown, the loops may be engaged with the sus pender-buttons upon each side. A long loop, I), is also supported by this bar, and this latter loop is designed to engage between the legs of the pantaloons with the crotch thereof at the center seam.
G is a V-shaped box consisting of sides and ends, without top or bottom, and of sufficient length to receive the lower end of the pantaloon-legs when folded flat from front to rear; and. G is a wedge of sufficient thinness inserted between the pantaloon-legs and within the box, when the legs are therein inserted, to hold the same in place under tension.
D is a spring centrally secured to the lower part of the wedge, where it projects through the bottom of the box, and this spring, being fixed at a proper point and the pantaloons be ing supported from a rigid point at the top, will exert, by means of the device described, an equal tension upon all parts of the pants except the bulging knees. A weight or any other equivalent device may be employed to produce this required tension when the pantaloons are suspended properly from the bar A.
This device may be also usefully employed to produce proper tension uponthe garment when it is desired to clean the same or apply detergents.
What I claim as my invention is 1. As a means for securing the lower ends of pantaloon-legs for the purpose of stretching the same, the V-shaped box and wedge, in combination with a device from which to suspend the pantaloons at the waist, substantially as described.
2. As a means of suspending pantaloons to be subjected to a tension, and of securing a fine tension thereon, a bar provided with a series of smaller loops to engage with the suspender-buttons of the garment, and a long loop to engage between the legs of the garment with the center seam thereof, substantially as described.
