To all whom it may 0012 0 7 72 V 7 Be it known that I, EMMA S; DUNCAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Globe, in the county of Gila and State of Arizona, have invented certain new and'useful Improvements in Garment-Stretchers, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.

This invention relates to new and useful improvements in garment stretchers.

An object of this invention is the provision of a garment stretcher so constructed as to support several garments of various natures. I

Another object of this invention is the provision of a garment stretcher which will hold the garments in such position that wrinkling will be prevented.

A further object of this invention is the provision of a garment stretcher so constructed as to support hats or the like in connection with the remainder of a persons 1 central portion of the arch bar 12 upwardly :therefrom, and provides a means whereby 'the' garment supporter may be suspended.

A further object of this invention is the provision of a garment stretcher which will be comparatively simple and inexpensive to manufacture, reliable and efficient in use, and readily operated.

With the above and other objects in view, this invention resides in the novel features of construction, formations, combinations and arrangements of parts to be hereinafter more fully described, claimed, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a front elevation of my invention. Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional view thereof. Fig. 3 is a similar view showing a garment applied.

Referring to the accompanying drawing by similar characters of reference throughout the several views, the numeral 10 designates in general my improved garment stretcher which consists of a U-shaped supporting frame 11, consisting of the upper arch bar 12, from the ends of which extend the depending legs 13 which have hinged, as at 14, to their lower extremities, the extensions 15. These extensions 15 are held in alinement with the legs 13 by sliding sleeves 16 arranged to incase the hinges 14, being limited in their downward movement by the stops 17. These sleeves obviously prevent the extensions from being folded upon the legs 13 while in their lowermost positions. An upper adjustable' bar 17 connects the legs 13 extending slightly beyond the outer sides thereof and being secured thereto by collars 18 which are secured to the bar and which surround the said legs 13. Set screws 19 pass through the collars 18 and by their contact with the legs, retain the bar 17 in any desired position relative to the arch bar 12. A lower adjustable bar 20, provided with collars 21, similar to the beforement'ioned' collars 18, and set screws 22, similar to the set screws 19, is slidably lo"- catedupon the extensions 15' of the legs 13 and is adapted to be adjusted to andfrom the upper adjustable bar 17 and locked its adjusted position by means of said set screws 22. The opposite edges of the bars 17 and 20 at the terminals thereof, are

formed with outwardly extending flanges 23 which support the hanger clips 24, the purpose of which will be later explained.

A supporting hook 25 extends from the A transverse rod 26 passes through this arch bar 12 at right angles thereto and has secured to its rearwardly extending terminal a coat hanger 27. This bar 26 is held against displacement by a screw cap 28 which is threaded on the forward extremity thereof. Hat racks 29 are secured to the upper of the flanges 23, and each consists of a plurality of wire strands 3O united at their lower ends and secured to the said flanges in any convenient manner. The upper ends of these strands 30 are curved outwardly, as clearly shown in the various fig ures of the drawings, and support the hat form 31, constructed of wire mesh or other suitable material and reinforced as shown at 82. Upon these hat forms 31 can be placed the hats, as shown by the dotted lines in Fig. 1.

Creasing slats 33 are extended through the alining hanger clips 24 and are provided with looking devices 34 by means of which they can be forced into engagement with the opposite sides of the garment disposed therebetween to be held in its creased position against wrinkling.

In use, the opposite edges of the garment to be stretched are placed between the upper and lower creasing slats 33 and the opposite ends of said slats secured through the hanger clips 24 and the locking devices 34E swung to position over the ends of said slat-s, causing the latter to grip and securely hold the garment and the collars 18 and 21 moved in opposite directions and away from one another upon the legs 13 and extensions 15 respectively, after which the set screws 19 and 22 are tightened, thereby properly stretching the garment or garments and retaining the same in proper condition, there by properly creasing the same and preventing wrinkling of said garment or garments.

From the foregoing disclosures taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, it will be manifest that a garment stretcher is provided which will fulfil all of the necessary requirements of such a device.

It should be understood in this connection that various minor changes in the specific details of construction can be resorted to within the scope of the appended claims members, stops for the sleeves, bars adjustable upon the side members and their 6X: tensions, flanges projecting from the bars, hangers secured to the flanges, slats pass 35 ing through the hangers, and means for forcing the slats toward each other and retaining them in such position.

In a garment stretcher, the combination with a iJ-shaped frame, of extension members hinged to the free ends of the legs of said member, means for supporting the frame, a bar adjustably mounted upon the legs of the member, a baradjustably mounted upon the extension members hinged to the legs of the U-shaped member, means for securing the bars in adjusted position, means for retaining the extension members in alinement with the legs of the U-shaped member,1oop hangers supported by the bars, aair of slats engaged through the hangers carried by each bar, and means for forcing the slats of each pair toward one another to cause the same to retain a garment therebctween.
