To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, NIcHoLAsfG. ORRICK, of Canton, in the county of Madison and State ot' Mississippi, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Rope-Clamps; andI do hereby declare 'that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art' to which it appertains to make and use the same,

This invention relates to clamps for the ends of rope traces and for similar purposes; and it consists incertain improvements in the construction of the same, which will be hereinafter fully described, and particularly pointed out in the claims.

In the drawings hereto annexed, A and B represent two semi-cylindrical shells or parts, constituting the body oflmy improved ropeclamp. One of said parts, A, is provided at its rear end with an eye or opening, C, to receive a hook` or link for attachment tothe whifietreefor to the hame-hook, as the case `Gr in the sides of shell B,thus.causing the parts to lit nicely'and securely together without danger oflateral displacement.

The shells or parts A and B are provided with inward-projecting sharp points or prongs, H, and one or both of said parts is provided, upon the outside, near the front end, with a nib or stud, I.

The shells A and B are provided at their rear ends with screw-threads R, as shown. These threads serve to clamp the bers of the rope transversely, thus taking the place ofthe binding with twine usually employed to prevent the ends of the ropes from unraveling, and which by my improvement may be omitted, thus saving time and trouble.

In Fig. 4 of i the drawings I have shown a modification of my invention which consists in omitting the guide-studs F and their corresponding recesses, and in lieu thereof extending the sides of the lower shell, A, upward at the rear end and correspondingly bevelin g the rear end of shell B. This construction is more' compact, and a similar result is achieved.

The operation of my invention will be readily understood. The end of the rope is placed in the semi-cylindrical shell A, the points or prongs H of which are driven through it. The tongue E of shell B is then placed in recess D of shell A, and shell B is then gradually lowered as if turned upon a'hinge until its points H'pierce the ropeV and the shells or parts A and B fit closely together. The ring J, which may have been previously adjusted upon the rope, is then slid upon the end of the clamp and partly turned, thus locking or binding the parts A B securely together.

With my improved clamp a light, inexpensive, and very durable rope trace may be constructed. The clamp, at the front end of the trace, is to be provided with several links for attachment to the hamehook, and by shifting the said links in the usual manner the trace may be lengthened or shortened, as required.

I wish it to be understood that I do not coniine myself to the use of the ring J for securing the parts A B together, as many other devices may be successfully used for the same purpose. I have selected this method, however, as being simple and effective.

'Havingthus described my invention, I claim IOC and desire to secure by Letters Patent ot' the United States- 1. As an improvement in rope-clamps, the combination of the shell A, having eye (A), recess D, and prongs H. with the shell B, having tongue E and prongs H, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.

2. As an improvement in 'ropecl-Amps, the semi-cylindrical shells A,B,haying prongs H and provided respectively with a recess, D, and tongue E and with guides F and recesses Gr, substantially as set forth.

3. In a rope-clamp, the combination, Iwith the shells A B, constructed substantially as described and having stud or studs I, ofthe being provided with prongs H and screw-V threads R, substantially as set forth.
