UNITED STATES PATENT Grmcn.
ROBERT H. BOTTS, OF OOLOMA, MISSOURI.
CHURNING ATTACHMENT TO WASHING-MACHINES.
SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 237,952, dated February 22, 1881.
Application filed November 5, 1880. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ROBERT H. BOTTS, of Coloma, Oarroll county, State of Missouri, have invented a new and useful Ohurning Attachment to Washing-Machines, of which the following is a clear, full, and exact description, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, making a part of this specification, in Which- Figure l is a perspective View of a washingmachine with the churning attachment. Fig. 2 is a cross-section of the same.
My invention relates to a churning device to be operated by the mechanism of a washing-machine, and is an improvement on apatent issued to me the 11th day of October, 1880 and it consists i the combination of devices hereinafter eXplai. ed and claimed.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe the exact manner in which I have carried itout.
In the drawings, A represents a washingmachine as shown and described in the patent already allowed to me, and B is the arm connecting thecrank-shaft G with the rubber D, to give an oscillating motion to the rubber.
Above the washing-machine rise the two standards E, sustaining the cross-bar F, to which is secured the slotted arm Gr, extending out and over the arms B, as shown in Fig. 2. To the side of the washin g-machine are secured the brackets H, through which passes the rod I, carrying on its lower end an ordinary churndasher, while its upper end is attached by a rod, J, to the arm G.
It is evident from this description that it the arm B be detached from the rubber of the washing machinery and be thrown up and secured to the arm G, as shown in Fig. l, the motion given by the crank-shaft U will be transferred immediately from the rubber to the churn-dashe'r, so that by simply changing the attachment of the arm B the same mechanism operates either the washing-machine Aor the churn K, thus virtually securing two machines for about the cost of one.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In a churning attachment to a washing-machine, the standards E, cross-bar F, and slotted arm G, in combination with the arm B, crank-shaft O, brackets H, and rods 1 and J, all constructed to operate substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
ROBT. H. BOTTS.
