2 Claims.
7 simple, convenient and attractive container of the 'type above indicated.
Various other objects and advantages will be apparent as the nature of the invention is more fully disclosed.
Although the novel features which are believed to be characteristic of this invention will be particularly pointed out in the claims appended hereto, the invention itself will be better understood by referring to the following description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing in which one embodiment thereof has been set forth for purposes of illustration.
In the drawing: Fig. 1 isa perspective View of the container showing the front open to form a tray;
Fig. 2 is a section taken along the line 2-2 of i r Fig. 3 is a partial transverse section showing the front in closed position; and
Fig. 4 is a bottom plan view of the container illustrating the hinge construction.
Referring to thedrawing more in detail, the container is shown as comprising a body section It) having a back ll, sides l2 and ends 13 secured together to form an open front container. The body section isshown as formed from a blank which is cut and folded to form tabs 15 at the ends of the sides [2, said tabs being folded over and secured to the ends I3 in any convenient manner. V r
A closureor cover lfiis formed with a top I! and with upstanding flanges l8 which are adapted to seat over the sides and ends of the body portion Ill. The cover I6 is secured to the body section ID by means of a hinge comprising hinge the inner face of the flange 18 of the cover. The
plates l9 and 20 which are secured respectively to the lowerside l2 of the body section and to plates l9 and 20 are joined by a hinge knuckle 2| which extends outwardly from the lower side of the body section. The flange I8 to which the hinge plate 20 is secured is provided with a curved tab 22 which extends over a portion of the hinge knuckle 2| 7 and. engages the hinge plate [9 to form a stop for holding the closure in horizontal position as illustrated in Figs. 1 and 2 so that the cover can be utilized as a tray.
A pair ofears 25 are pivoted to the back H as by rivets 26. These ears are provided with slots 21 which are adapted to receive a nail or thelike for hanlgingthecontainer on a wall. The-body portion 10 and closure l6 are provided with suitable catch members and 3| to hold the container closed. A handle 32 is attached tothe top side l2 of the body portion to permit the container to be readily carried when desired.
By means of the construction above described, the container is adapted to be readily closed and carried or to be hung on a Wall in such a manner that the contents thereof are readily accessible. The closure I6 is held in horizontal position when open to form a tray so that the contents of the container can be more readily handled. This feature is of importance in a first-aid kit which may be hung. upon the walls of a factory where space is limited and where a clean tableor the like may not be available for supporting the first aid materials as they are being assembled for use.
The present invention may be put to various uses as will be apparent from a consideration of the'embodiment disclosed. It is to be understood that various changes and modifications may be made therein without departing from the scope of the invention which is to be limited only in accordance with the following claims when interpreted in view of the prior art.
What is claimed is:
l. A container comprising a body section having sides, ends and back and open at the front, means to engage a wall support for hanging the container thereon, a front closure hinged to the lower side of said body section to open downwardly, said closure having side flanges adapted to seat over said sides and ends and a hinge for said closure comprising hinge plates extending substantially the full width of said container and secured to the lower side of said body member and to the inside of the corresponding flange of said closure" respectively, said hinge having a knuckle extending downwardly from said hinge members in the closed position of said closure,said last mentioned flange being extended over the entire length of said hinge knuckle to form a stop for holding the closure extended horizontally and to conceal said hinge knuckle when the front closure is in closed position. 7
2. A container comprising an open top body section, a cover therefor having flanges adapted to seat outside of the walls of said body section and a hinge for said cover comprising hinge plates extending along substantially the full width of said container and secured to an outer wall of said body section and to the inner surface of the corresponding flange of said cover, respectively, said last mentioned flange being extended over the entire length of the hinge knuckle to form a stop for limiting the movement of said closure and to conceal the hinge knuckle when said cover
