MARCUS B. BEHRMAN, OF NEW YORK, N. Y., ASSIGNOR TO AMERICAN SAFETY RAZOR CORPORATION, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK, A CORPORATION OF VIRGINIA.
CABINET FOR HOLDING SHAVING- REQUISITES.
Application filed October 7, 1922. Serial No. 592,955.
To all whom it may concern: frame of the razor rests upon said shelf, the
Be it known that I, MARCUS B. BEHRMAN, lather brush and collapsible tube being sua citizen of the United States, and a resident spended from said shelf and said shelf thus of New York city, in the county of New providing a sanitary place where the brush,

The cabinet ofmy incompanylng drawings, in which: v ti l ro id a he1f hich may Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a cabinet be used to hold new safety-razor blades and cons :ructed in accordance with and embodyalso to receive discarded, blades, one of my 111g my invention, the cabinet door being purposes being to furnish a place where dis shown in closed position;

0 a hinged door therefor, said door occupying In the drawings, 10 designates the body the major portion of the front of the cabi- P IOII of he Cebmet and, 11 the hinged net and constituting a frame for a mirror, door therefor. I which may be made use of during shaving. The body portion of the cabinet will pref- The body portion of the cabinet and also the erably b formed from one piece of sheet door therefor, aside from the mirror, are m l, nd Sald body portlon has a plain formed from sheet metal and enameled and ck 12, a forwardly projected rim portion hence the cabinet is not only durable but of 1 ons utlng the top, sides and bottom of sanitary character. The body portion of the cabinet and an encompassing front the cabinet and also the door are of special flange or frame 14 which projects inwardly construction, as hereinafter explained, and from the front edges of said rim and constiwithin the upper end of said body portion I tutes the whole of the front of the body porpreferably provide two parallel shelves tion 10. .The front flange or frame 14 along formed from a single blank of sheet metal, its inner edges is offset inwardly, as at 9, the upper and lower portions of the blank bethereby strengthening said flange or frame ing bent forwardly to form the shelves and and forming a continuous sunken seat for the intermediate portion of the blank formthe adjacent edge portions of the door 11 ing a backing which I secure to the back and leaving the face of said flange or frame member of the cabinet and in that way seexterior to said seat and the face of the edge cure the shelves in place. The shelves are portions of the door with plain flat flush 0 flanged downwardly at their front edges, surfaces. 1 and the lower shelf is recessed inwardly at The cabinet is rectangular in general outseveral points and in suitable manner to reline and at its corners is rounded, as at. ceive the handle of a lather brush, the cap 15, thereby depriving the rim portion 13 end of a collapsible tube of shaving cream of sharp corners and adding to the appearand the handle of a safety razor while the ance of the cabinet as well as to convenience in handling the same. The body 10 of the cabinet formed from one piece of sheet metal and properly enameled is not only neat in appearance and durable but may be readily kept clean and in sanitary cond tion.
Within the body portion 10 I provide, near the upper end thereof, two shelves 16, 17 respectively, these shelves being of sheet metal and formed in one part with a back connecting plate 18 which is secured to the back 12 of said body portion. In forming the shelves 16, 17 I use a single blank of sheet metal of the width of the body 10 and bend the upper and lower portions thereof forwardly to form the shelves 16, 17 and leave the vertical back 18 adapted to fit flat against the back 12, to which I secure the same by spotwelding or other convenient method. The shelf 16 is a plain flat shelf upon which safety razor blades 20 may be conveniently placed, and I may add that it is my purpose to provide space on the shelf 16 for the new safety razor blades 20 and also space to receive safety razor blades which have become dull and are to be discarded, it being desir able that the discarded blades should be placed on the shelf 16 and thereafter properly removed as distinguished from throwing the safety razor blades into a waste basket or other place where they might'do considerable damage. The shelf 17 is parallel with the shelf 16 and said shelf 17 is recessed inwardly from its front edge, as at 21, 22, 23 as shown in Figs. 2 and .4, said recesses extending to nearly the back edge of the shelf and the recesses 21, 22 preferably being of correspondin width, while the recess 23 is of greater wi th than either the recess 21 or the recess 22. The front edges of the shelves 16, 17 are fiangeddownwardly, as at 24, 25, respectively, this downward fianging of the front edges of the shelves serving to strengthen the shelves and also to give them a desirable appearance. I extend the flange 25 of the lower shelf along the edgesof the recesses 21, 22, 23, as shown at 26, the:eby adding to the stiffness and strength of the shelf 17 and imparting suitable broad edges along said recesses to relieve them of sharpness and adapt them to receive, without injury to the same, the shaving articles to be applied to them, to wit: a tube of shaving cream 27, a safety razor 28 and a shaving brush 29, as shown in Fig. 2.
The door 11 is of rectangular outline and occupies the major portion of the front area of the cabinet and said door is secured at one side edge by a hinge 30 to the adjacent edge of the front 14. The door 11 is formed from a rectangular piece of sheet metal cut out at its interiorportions to leave a rectangular open frame 31 whose outer edge portions are adapted to the sunken seat 9 formed on the front 14 of the body portion 10 and whose inner edge portions are depressed inwardly, as at 32, to strengthen the door and form a rectangular open panel 33 constituting a surrounding frame for the mirror 34. Upon the back of the door 11 I secure a sheet metal pocket 35 which is open at its upper end and into which I place the mirror 34, said mirror at its edge portions closely fitting against the back of the panel 33 and entirely closing the opening therein.
I equip the door 11 with a knob handle 36, and adjacent thereto the door is provided at its inner side with a latch spring 37 to en gage a catch 38 formed on the front 14 of the body 10 by bending inwardly a limited portion of the inner edge of said front 14,
as shown in Fig. 5. The spring 37 and catch 38 serve to lock the door 11 in.closed position but permit said door to be opened by a pull on the knob 36, the spring 37 yielding to the force of the pull and sliding from the catch.
I provide the back 12, near its upper end, with an opening 39 by which the cabinet may be suspended on a screw 40 or the like, and I also form apertures 41 in the back plate 18 and back 12 to receive screws 42 or the like by which the cabinet may be fastened against a wall or like surface 43 and held against tilting or lateral swaying movement. The
- apertures 41 extend through two thicknesses of metal and hence may efficiently cooperate with the screws 42.
The cabinet is intended to be as nearly dust-proof as practicable but should be ventilated to some extent by reason of the fact that the brush 29 will probably while damp from use be suspended from the shelf 17, and hence I form a few holes 44 in the bottom of the cabinet for the admission of air.
"The manner of using the cabinet will be understood on reference .to Figs. 1 and 2 without extended explanation. The recess 21 receives the upper end of the tube 27 and suspends the same from the cap thereon. The recess 22 receives the handle of the razor 28 and the frame of the razor rests upon the shelf 17, and the edges of the recess 23 enter an annular groove in the handle of the brush 29 and suspend the brush from said handle.
The cabinet is designed to serve as a convenience in hotels and bath rooms and to properly keep the articles required for shaving together and in a special place provided for them.
