The invention relates specifically to a casing preferablyprovided with a handleand so arranged that it may carry a mirror, a brush and a comb. Preferably the brush is removable and the comb is removable. Preferably separate openings are provided for removing the brush and the comb.

In the accompanying drawing Figure 1 is a top plan view of the device. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal vertical section on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3

is a fragmentary view of a portion of Fig. 2 the closure being shown in open position, and Fig. 4 is a'transverse vertical section on the line 4-4 of Fig. 1.

The specic form of the invention shown comprises a casing I which may be provided with an inwardly extending overhanging rim II. Within the casing and against the rim II is a mirror I2 the reflecting side being out. A rib I3 holds the mirror in place and against the flange II. The ,20 shape of the mirror and of the opening' surrounded by the flange I I is immaterial to the invention. It is shown here as circular but may be made in. any desired plain or fancy shape.

The casing is provided with downwardly ex ,25 tending side walls ill which provide a space to receive the head of a brush I5. At suitable points about the wall I4 may be provided means for supporting and holding the brush head in place. For this purpose there is shown an inwardly projecting lug I6 entering a correspondingly disposed aperture !'I in the brush head I5. 'Ihe exact position of the lug I6 is not important but it is illustrated placed diametrically opposite the handle I8 of the casing. Opposite the aperture l 'I the brush head is provided with an aperture IQ Vwhich may be engaged by a catch or button 253 I into which is threaded a nger piece 2|. The finger piece 2| and the button 20 may rest more or less snugly against the wall of the handle I8 40 which is provided with a slot 22 in which rests a collar l2i! carried by the finger piece 2l. When the finger piece 2| is manipulated so as to move 'the button into the position illustrated in the drawing the button 2D extends into the aperture I9 and cooperates with the lug I6 to hold the brush head I`5 in its seat in the casing IE). Preferably means will be provided for holding the vbutton normally in `this position. For this purpose there is shown a spring 24 in the handle I8 '50. having its free end resting against the button 20. The arrangement is such that when the finger piece 2| is pressed to the other end of the slot 22 the" button 20 moves against the pressure of the spring 24 and releases one side of the brush head V'55 I5 so that it may be tipped and removed from engagement with the lug I6 and thus removed from the casing.

The handle I8 is hollow and is adapted to contain a comb or other article or articles. 'The comb or contained article may be only the length of the i handle itself or it maybe considerably longer as indicated in dottedlines in Fig. 1 showing a comb extending across the brush head i5 and into the handle I8. For this purpose the brush head I5 on its upper side is provided with a slot 25 in line l with the handle I Biand of sufficient depth and width to receivethe comb.

vThe end of the handle 'I3is closed by means of a cover plate 26. A frame 21 attached to the cover plate extends into the handle I8 and inside f the handle I8 is a corresponding frame `28 which is adapted to slide into the end of the handle I8. On'one or both sides of the inside of the handle I8 are stops 29 `so arranged as to be engaged by outwardly extending stops' 3B carried onone or both sides of -the sliding frame 28. These stops may be made by stampingy welding or ,in any other suitable manner. The frame l21 is fastened to the frame 28 by means of al spring hinge A3 I, the spring of which is biased so as to tend to-force the frame 21 into the positionl shown in Fig. `3 in which it is out of alignment with thefframe 28. When the cover plate'ZS is Vin the normal closing position indicated in Fig. 2 the tendency of the spring hinge 3| is to press the frame 21 against the inside of thehandle I8. Thisis-pressed with sulicient force -to lcause a frictional contact strong enough -to hold the cover normally in place and prevent the comb or other article from falling out. In-this position the stops 29 and 3l) are out of contact. In order to open the handle the cover 26 may be pulled away from the end of the handle vI-, and since the hinge 3I is beyond the end of the handle IB it will force the frame 2'I into the posi-tion illustrated in Fig. 3 thus tendf ing -to holdthe cover -plate l126 in the unclosed position. As theframe'l is pulled outward the stops 30 engage the stops '2S thus limiting the outward movement -ofthe frame andkeeping the cover plate 26 -from being completely detached from the device.

It will lbe seen that inthe formhere illustrated there is provided a new, convenient, compact device in which is afmirrorvpermanently held in place always accessible and available `:for use. There ,is provided an end enclosure for a receptaclegfor an article such as. a combI where it is always available for. use. There is provided a brush which may be easily removed for use or for washing or cleaning, or which may be rigidly held in place Where it may be manipulated by means of the handle I8.

The specific details of the mechanism here illustrated are not essential to the invention which may be embodied in other forms, and the device may also be used for purposes other than here described and for carrying or enclosing other structures or materials.

I claim as my invention :k 1. A casing having a laterally extending hollow handle and an opening surrounded by an overhanging rim, a mirror against the rim, a rib below the mirror and holding it in place, a depending ilange in the casing to enclose ra brush, an inwardly projecting lug in the flange, a brush head having an aperture into which the lug extends and an oppositely disposed aperture, a sliding catch mounted in the hollow handle for engaging the last'named aperture, a linger piece for the catch extending through a slot in the handle, a spring in the handle and resting against the catch and urging it into the flange so as to engage the last named aperture in the brush head, a groove in thebrush head in line with the hollow handle, a plate for closing the end of the handle, a frame extending inwardly from the plate, a sliding frame in the handle, stops in the handle and in the sliding frame to limit its movement, and a spring hinge connecting the frames so that the flrst mentioned frame causes friction on the handle to hold the plate in closed position or causes the frame to turn about the hinge and keep the plate in open position.

A casing having a laterally extending hollow handle and a seat, a mirror in the seat, a depending flange in the casing to enclose a brush, a brush head engaging the flange and having an aperture, a spring-held sliding catch mounted in the hollow handle for engaging the last named aperture, a plate for closing the end of the handle, a frame extending inwardly from the plate, a sliding frame in the handle, stops in the handle and in the sliding frame to limit its movement, and a spring hinge connecting the frames so that the first mentioned frame causes friction on the handle to hold the plate closed or causes the frame to turn about the hinge and keep the plate in open position.

A casing having a laterally extending hollow handle and a seat, a mirror in the seat, a depending flange in the casing to enclose a brush, an inwardly projecting lug in the flange, a brush head having an apertureV into which the lug extends and an oppositely disposed aper` ture, a sliding catch mounted in the hollow handle for engaging the last named aperture, a linger piece for the catch extending through a slotin the handle, a spring in the handle and resting `against the catch and urging it into the flange so as to engage the last named aperture in the brush head, a plate for closing the end of the handle, and means for holding the plate in open position or in closed position.

A casing having a later-ally extending hollow handle and a seat, a mirror in the seat, means in the casing to removably hold a brush, a plate for closing the end of the handle, a frame extending inwardly from the plate, a sliding frame in the handle, stops in the handle and in the sliding frame to limit lts movement, and a spring hinge connecting the frames so that the first mentioned frame causes friction on the handle to hold the plate in closed position or causes the frame to turn about the hinge and keep the plate in open position.

5. A casing having a laterally extending hollow handle and a seat, a mirror in the seat, means in the casing to removably hold a brush, a plate for closing the end of the handle, and means for holding the plate in open position or in closed position.

6. A casing having a laterally extending hollow handle and, a seat, a mirror in the seat, means in the casing to removably hold a brush, a plate for closing the end of the handle, a frame extending inwardly from the plate, and a sliding frame in the handle hinged to the first named frame.

7. A casing having a laterally extending hollow handle, means in the handle to hold a brush, a plate for closing the end of the handle, `and means for holding the plate in open position or in closed position.

8. A casing having a laterally extending hollow handle, means iii the handle to hold a brush, a receptacle sliding in the hollow handle, and a plate connected to the receptacle by a spring hinge for closing or opening the endl of the handle.

9. A casing having a laterally extending hollow handle, a depending flange in the casing to enclose a brush,a brush head engaging the flange and having an aperture, a spring held sliding catch mounted in the hollow handle for engaging the last named aperture, a plate for closing the end of the handle, a frame extending i inwardly from the plate, a sliding frame in the handle, and a spring hinge connecting the frames so that the rst mentioned frame causes friction on the handle to hold the plate closed or causes the frame to turn about the hinge and keep .the plate in open position.

A casing having a laterally extending hollow handle, a brush head in the casing having an aperture, a sliding catch mounted in the holiow handle for engaging the last named aperture, a spring in the handle and resting against the catch and urging it into the flange so as to engage the last named aperture in the brush head, a plate for closing the end of the handle, and means for holdingthe plate in open position or in closed position.

12. A casing having a laterally extending hollow handle, a brush head in the casing having an aperture, a sliding catch mounted in the hollow handle for engaging the last named aperture,

means for sliding the catch, a spring in the han-v pending ilange in the casing to enclose abrush,

an inwardly projecting lug in the ange, a brush head having an aperture into which the lug extends and an oppositely disposed aperture, a spring held sliding catch mounted in the hollow handle for engaging the last named aperture, means for operating the catch against the spring, a groove in the brush head in line with the hollow handle, a plate for closing the end of the handle, a frame extending inwardly from the plate, a sliding fram-e in the handle, stops in the handle and in the sliding frame to limit its movement, and a spring hinge connecting the frames so that the rst mentioned frame causes friction on the handle to hold the plate in closed position or causes the frame to turn about the hinge and keep the plate in open position.

14. A casing having a laterally extending hollow handle and an opening surrounded by an overhanging rim, a mirror against the rim, a rib below the mirror and holding it in place, a depending flange in the casing to enclose a brush, an inwardly projecting lug in the flange, a brush head having an aperture into which the lug eX- tends and an oppositely disposed aperture, a sliding catch mounted in the hollow handle for engaging the last named aperture, means for operating the catch, a groove in the brush head in line with the hollow handle, a plate for closing the end of the handle, a frame extending in- Wardly from the plate, a sliding frame in the handle, and a spring hinge connecting the frames so that the first mentioned frame causes friction on the handle to hold the plate in closed position or causes the frame to turn about the hinge and keep the plate in open position.

15. A casing having a laterally extending hollow handle and an opening surrounded by an overhanging rim, a mirror against the rim, a rib below the mirror and holding it in place, a depending flange in the casing to enclose a brush, an inwardly projecting lug in the flange, a brush head having an aperture into which the lug extends and an oppositely disposed aperture, a sliding catch mounted in the hollow handle for engaging the last named aperture, means for operating the catch, a groove in the brush head in line with the hollow handle, a plate for closing the end of 'the handle, a frame extending inwardly from the plat-e, a sliding frame in the handle, stops in the handle and in the sliding frame to limit its movement, and a spring hinge connecting the frames so that the first mentioned frame causes friction on the handle to hold the plate in closed position or causes the frame to turn about the hinge and keep the plate in open position.

16. A casing having a laterally extending hollow handle, a brush head in the casing, a plate for closing the end of the handle, a frame extending inwardly from the plate, a sliding frame in the handle, stops in the handle and in the sliding frame to limit its movement, and a spring hinge connecting the frames so that the first mentioned frame causes friction on the handle to hold the plate closed or causes the frame to turn about the hinge and keep the plate in open position.

A casing having a laterally extending hollow handle, a depending flange in the casing to enclose a brush, a brush head engaging the ange and having an aperture, a spring held sliding catch mounted in the hollow handle for engaging the last named aperture, a plate for closing the end of the handle, a frame extending\inwardly from the plate, a sliding frame in the handle, stops in the handle and in the sliding frame to limit its movement, and a spring hinge connecting the frames so that the first mentioned frame causes friction on the handle to hold the plate closed or causes the frame to turn about the hinge and keep the plate in open position.
