Description
J. W. KNAPP. Handle for Bundles.
'No. 196,364. Patented Oct. '23, 1877 lNvzm-rmm WITNEEEEE:
, NJETERS. FHOTO-LITHOGRAPHER, WASHINGTON. D C,
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JAMES w. KNAPP, OF WARWICK, NEW YORK, ASSIGNOR 0E ONE-HALF HIS RIGHT TO JAMES H. HOLLY, or SAME PLAoE.
IMPROVEMENT IN HANDLES FOR BUNDLES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 196,364, dated October 23, 1877; application filed March 26, 1877.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J As. WV.- KNAPP, of Warwick, in the county of Orange and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Handles for Bundles; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention is in the nature of a pocket device for use in carrying bundles, packages, or the like; and the invention consists in the construction and combination of parts, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
The accompanying drawing, forming a part of the specification, shows a perspective view of this device as applied toa box.
A represents awooden handle, provided with a wire, B, which passes through the center of the handle, and is then bent at rightangles to the line of the handle, and the ends made into bulging loops 0 G. Through these loops is passed a double or single cord, D, a portion of such cord forming a loop, D. This loop is passed around a bundle, box, or package, and
drawn tight, and the ends D 1), being also passed around the bundle, are tied, whereby the bundle may not only be secured, but is also provided with a handle for convenience in carrying. The act of drawing the ends D D of the cords tightly to tie them also serves to tighten the loop D about the bundle.
The action of the cord, when secured around a bundle or other package, will be such as to retain the wire at a perpendicular to the bundle, thereby presenting the handle in the most convenient position for use; but such action does not preclude the folding back of the handle upon the bundle when that is desired.
Having thus described my invention, what I desire to secure by Letters Patent is A bundle-carrier consisting of a wire bent at right angles to the line of its handle,- and provided with bulging loops at the ends, adapted to receive a cord, in combination with the cord, arranged as shown and described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JAMES W. KNAPP.
