Description
WATCH NOVELTY Filed July 14, 1930 Patented Oct. 13, 1931 PATENT OFFICE ISIDORE DITESHEIM, F LA CHAUX-DE-FONDS, SWITZERLAND WATCH NOVELTY Application led July 14, 1930, Serial No. 467,905, and yin Switzerland November 26, 1929.
This invention relates to a watch holder, more particularly a handbag, a wallet, a ewel box or other similar article to which has been attached one of the present up-to-date 5 watches, which is contained in a case of two parts adapted to slide over the case of the watchin the plane of the latter, the said parts being normally joined together but adapted to be moved apart for rendering the indicatw ing members of the watch visible.
The subject matter of the invention is characterized by partly fixing the case containing the watch in a cavity formed in one of the faces of the watch holder, the two parts of the case being connected in a detachable manner each by its external end to the watcl holder by means of a fastening so to be able, by means of one of the fastenings, to detach from the said watch holder one of the 2o parts of the case and to disengage the latter partly from the said cavity and to move the two parts apart for rendering the indicating members visible.
A principal object of the invention is to provlde a watch novelty which is decorative l and at the Same time will safeguard the watch face and the watch movement from harm.
For understanding the invention, a constructionalform thereof is shown by way of 3o example in the accompanying drawings, in
which Figure l is a front elevation, the case containing the watch being closed,
Figure 2 is a similar view to the preceding one showing the case containing the watch open for rendering the indicating members of the latter visible,
Figure 3 is a cross section of the subject matter of the invention showing the case Ll0 closed in full lines and open in dotted lines,
and
Figure 4 shows separately and on an enlarged scale` the case opened for rendering the indicating members of the watch visible. There is formed in one of the faces of a jewel boX 1 of morocco leather which has been chosen for illustrative purposes, a rectangular cavity 2 in which is partly fixed a case of a suitable shape containing a watch 3. This case has two parts 4, 5 adapted to slide over the case of the watch in the plane thereof.
The parts 4 and 5 of the watch are normally joined together and may be moved apart for rendering the indicating members of the watch visible, as shown in Figures 2 and 4 of the drawings. However, the case and the watch which it contains do not come With- -in the scope of the invention becausethis type of watch constitutes the subject matter of prior patents. The invent-ion concerns the application of the case containing a watch to a jewel box or other similar article. For this purpose, the two parts 4 and 5 of the case are connected in a detachable manner, each by its external end to the external part l of the j ewel-box by means of leather straps 6 and 7. Each leather strap is fixed to a handle 9 upon the respective part of the case.
The strap 6 is positioned under the part l by passing it through an opening 10 and is secured thereto by means of a snap fastener 1l. The strap 7 is secured on the external face of the member l by means of a snap fastener l2. By means of the strap 7, it is possible to detach the part 5 of the case from the member Al in order to disengage the latter partly from the cavity 2 and to move the two parts 4 and 5 of the case apart by pulling the strap 7 for exposing the indicating members of the watch (Figures 2 and 4;),
After reading the time, the case is closed again by placing it in the cavity 2 and the strap 7 is secured again by means of the snap fastener 1Q.
The case containing the watch may be easily lifted from the j ewel box and replaced therein by means of the straps with the snap fasteners. These leather straps may however be replaced by other fastening means.
The watch contained in the case may, if desired, have an automatic winding mechanism controlled by the two movable parts 4 and 5 of the case.
It is obvious that various changes and modifications may be made in the combination and arrangements of parts without departing from the spirit and scope of the following claims and it is my intention to claim all such changes and modifications.
I claim: e 1. A watch holder comprising a casing lformed of two parts adapted to slide over the case of the watch in the plane of the A 5 latter, said parts being normally joined together and adapted to be moved apart for rendering the indicating members of the watch y Visible, said casing containing `the v watch being partly fixed in a cavity formed v '10 in the watch holder, fastenings upon the eX- ternal end of each part of said casing secured to the watch holder so as to be able by means of one of the fastenings to detach from the holder one of the parts of the, casing, to dis- 15 engage the latter partly from the said cavity and kco-move thetwo parts of the casing apart for rendering the indicating members of; the watch visible. Y v f 2. Awatch holder, according to claim 1 o 20 in which each of the two partsof the casing are connected to the watch holder by means of afastening formed by astrap, snap fasteners connecting said straps to said holder, one of the straps being disposed on Z5 the external face and the other concealed inside the watch holder. Y In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification. v
v VISIDORE DITESHElM.
