Description

Aug. 4, 1931. e, HUGUENIN NOVELTY WATCH Filed June 29, 1927 lllllllll lllll INVCN role Patented Aug. 4, 1931 UNITED STATES GEORGES HUGUENIN, OF LE LOCLE, SWITZERLAND NOVELTY WATCH Application filed June 29, 1927, Serial No. 202,355, and in Germany October 11, 1926.
The present invention relates to a watch casing for wrist watches which is enclosed and held slidingly within a two-part fancy casing and which rests on a flat spring supported by said casing, means being provided for limiting the path of the two halves of the casing when drawn apart in order to disclose the dial of the watch.
The accompanying drawings represent on an enlarged scale one form of watch embodying the present invention,
Figure 1 showing the closed casing with its ornamentation;
Fig. 2 a plan view of the watch with the casding opened but without ornamentation;
Fig. 3 a longitudinal section of the watch and easing complete.
Fast to both sides of a rectangular watch case proper a are secured grooved ledges b by means of which said watch case is slidably engaged with guide tongues d provided on the inside of the outer ornamental casing 0. Thus the watch case is slidably mounted within the casing c, and if the two halves of this casing are drawn apart thedial of the watch will be disclosed; it being understood that the case is recessed or made hollow so that the watch movement can be fitted there- The watch case a rests on a broad flat spring 6 having a central slot f in which are engaged two pins 9 provided one on each half of the casing 0. Thus the movement of the two halves of the casing, when drawn apart, will be limited.
Preferably the outside of the casing c is ornamented and may be enamelled. The two halves of this casing are assembled on the watch case simply by a suitable pressure exerted on the same and are kept closed owing to the frictional contact of the guiding members increased by spring e.
The shown combination of a watch enclosed in a protective and extensible casing is especially intended for watches suspended on the neck. Eyelets it are provided at the outer ends of the two halves of the casing as attaching means for a chain or the like not 53 shown.
What I Wish to secure by Letters Patent 1s:
1. In a novelty watch, the combination of a rectangular case, and an outer extensible twopart protective casing, cooperating guiding means between the case and the two halves of Y I l the outer casing, and means for limiting the path of the two extended halves and for main taining the closed condition of the same.
2. In a novelty watch, the combination of a rectangular case and an extensible two-part outer protective casing, co-operating guiding means between case and the two halves of the outer casing, and means for limiting the path of the two extended halves and for maintaining the closed condition of the same; said means comprising a slotted broad flat spring inserted between the back of the case and the walls of the outer casing, and pins secured to each half of the casing and engaged in the slot in said spring.
In testimony whereof I aiiix my signature.
GEORGES I-IUGUENIN.
