SAFETY PACK HOLDER Filed Dec. 22, 1926 Patented Apr. 14, 1931;
FRANK I1. ROUSSEAU, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS SAFETY-PACK nonnnn Application filed December 22, 1926. Serial no. 156,501.
My invention relates to an improved safety pack holder, and more particularly to a type of holder having the combined function of holding in one end a pencil or other writing means, and providing in its opposite end a storage space which is adapted to contain a safety pack.
My invention relates further to an improved holder of the type above described, 19 provided with means engaging the contained safety pack holding the pack against accidental outward movement, and for engaging the side of the pack when thepack is removed from its container to rip the envelope or wrapper surrounding the elements constituting the pack so that the elements may be available for use immediately upon removal. The value of this invention resides in its simplicity and convenience in removing the safety pack from its holder and its accessibility and handiness realized by combining the safety pack holder with a holder for a pencil or other writing means or any other article that is usually carried on the person and which is readily available at times of emergency or at unexpected moments when need for its use arises. It is usually true that one carries at all times for convenient use a pencil or writing element of some description, and especially in factories or any other 10- cations where workmen are subjected to dangers or liability of being injured by cuts and bruises or the like, where emergency packs of this type will be of great service. It will be 5 readily seen, therefore, that a very convenient, useful and desirable combination is effected, and one which will readily render valuable service by combining a holder containing an article that is usually carried on the person, and providing a storage space for an emergency pack in said holder. 0
One of the objects of my invention is to provide a holder havingstorage space in one end adapted to contain a safety pack either directly positioned in the end of the holder and retained therein by a suitable cap posltioned thereover, or to contain a cylindrical cartridge enclosing a safety pack which will serve as a cap for the end of the holder and 50 which may be removed from the holder so that the pack in turn "may be removed from it.
Another object of my invention is to provide a holder in combination with a pencil or other means as above described which is provided with a storage space either in one end of the main body portion of the holder or in a cartridge as described in the above stated object, the portion of the container enclosing the safety pack being provided with an in-- clined edge surface and a projectingoverhanging lip which. serves to engage the end ofthe safety pack in inserted position to hold the pack against accidental outward movement, and to further actas a cutting means for the envelope or wrapper of the pack, usually of paper, when the pack is reinovedfrom itsholder to release the elements constituting the pack to render them readily available for use. The inclined edge of the holder provides a means for readily gripping the exposed portion of the pack between the fingers so that it may be" readily withdrawn.
These and other objects are accomplished bymeans of the arrangement disclosed on the accompanying sheet of drawings, in whichi 0 Figure 1 is a side elevation of a pencil and holder constructed in accordance with the principles of this invention; j
Figure 2 is an enlarged cross sectional view of the form of my invention shown in Figure 1, the pencilbeing in reverse position, em closedas when not in use, the safety pack being contained in a cartridge insertable into and carried in the opposite end of the holder;
Figure 3 is aview similar to Figure 2 of a modified form of my invention in which the safety pack is "contained inthe end of the main body portion of the holder, the end of whichis enclosed by a suitable cap; and
Figure 4 is a perspective view of the cartridge and safety packof the type shown in Figure 2, thepack being shown partly re moved to reveal the operation and effect of the projection on the casing in ripping the envelope enclosing the elements constituting thepackw The various novel features of the invention Willbe apparent from the following tipscrip- 10(1.
I and preferably, but not necessarily, provided withj a shoulder ll-in arestricted end portion 12, which serves to hold asuitable writing means, such as pencil 13. The pencil is held in a cap member 14 provided with a ridge 15 and is adapted tobe-positioned with the end of the pencil exposed, as, shown in Flgure 1, or in a closed position as when carried in the pocket whennot in use,.as shown;
in Figure 2. In either instance, the portion :efthe tube 12 engages the cap 14 to hold the pencil in place, the ridge 15 forming a-stop -tolimit the Fdegree of insertion in either po- -sition. As shown in Figure 2, the opposite end of the holder' lO receivesa cartridge mem- ;ber,1-6, the-inward: movement ofwhich is limited by-theshould'er 11 in the holder so ,7 that the pack and the pencil point are always -;maintained inspaced relationship.
