UNITED STATES PATENT ()FFICE.
FRANK S. SAX'ION, OF BLISSFIELD, MICHIGAN.
CLOTHES HANGER.
Application filed July 5, 1928. Serial No. 290,398.
My invention has for its object to provide tively large circular portion 11 that is curved a clothes hanger that is so constructed that it to form a relatively small curvature, prefermay be readily secured in position on an ably, so as to locate the outermost point of edge of an object and so that its parts will the curved portion 11 at a point well outside be elastically pressed against the object to of the plane extending between the legs 4: hold it in position. The invention particuand 5. The curved portion 11 terminates larly provides a clothes hook that may be in a loop 12 which is located at the end of the readily supported by hooking it over the strip 1. I edge of the glass of an automobile window lVhen the strip 1 has been formed substan or door so that clothes, such as coats and tlally as described and as illustrated in the 65 hats, may he supported thereby. The hook drawings, the curved portion 6 is located at embodying my invention is so formed that a point substantially mldway between the it may easily be carried in a pocket or readcurved portions 7 and 11. Also, the curved ily placed in position on the upper edge of a POI'tiOIl 6 iS located in close proximity t0 window for the support of garments, the plane of the leg 5 which is tangential to 70 The invention may be contained in clothes the curved portion 11. Thus, when the hook hooks or' hangers that vary in their details 3 is placed over the edge of a body, such as and, to illustrate a practical application of a plate of glass, the body will be elastically the invention, I have selected a hook containengaged at the three points formed by the ing the invention and shall'describe it hereurved portions 6, 7 and 11, and the clothes 75 inafter. The clothes hanger selected is hanger will thus be elastically secured in poshown in the accompanying-drawings. sition.
Fig. 1 of the drawings illustrates the in- The legs 4 and 5 of the hook 3 being relaterior of an automobile and shows two of the tively long locates the points of elastic enhangers located in position for supporting gagement of the hook with the glass plate, 80 hats and coats. Fig. 2 illustrates a view or such as the window of an automobile, on 0p a cross section of the hanger located in posiposite sides of the glass plate and well below tion on the upper edge of the glass of an the edge of the window. Consequently, the automobile window. Fig. 3 is a perspective points of support or engagement of the hook view of the hanger. with the clothes that are hung thereon are 85 The clothes hanger is formed of an elastic well below the upper edge of the window. metal strip oblong in its cross section, to The loop 9 forms one of the hooks on which form relatively wide lateral surfaces. The clothes may be hung and the curved portion strip is bent at different points in order to 11 together with the loop 12 forms a lower form three hooks from the strip and so that hook on which clothes may be hung. There 0 the wide surfaces of the strip constitute the is thus provided, as is common in hooks for supporting surface of the hook and also the clothes, a hook for hanging a garment, such supporting surfaces for the clothes that are as the lower hook, and a hook for supportsupported thereby. Thus the elastic metal ing a hat, such as the upper hook. Since the band or strip 1 is bent, as at 2, to form the portion of the strip 1 that forms the lower 95 hook 3 having two relatively long leg porhook, namely, the portion 11, is elastically tions 4 and 5. The end portion of the strip pressed against the surface of the supporting 1 that forms the leg 4 terminates in an outobject, such as the glass window of the auwardly bent curved portion 6, while the tomobile, and lies tangential thereto by reaother leg 5 is shorter and terminates in a son of its curved form, a brim of a hat may we curved portion 7 that is located well above easily be pushed between the curved portion' the bent portion 6. From the curved por- 11 and the window and will be held in position 7, the strip 1 extends outwardly from tion by the elasticity of the strip 1. Thus a the hook 8, as at 8, and at the end of the porstraw hat or a belt hat will be readily secured tion 8 of the strip 1, the strip is bent to form in position while the two clothes hooks of the a loop 9. The loop 9 terminates in a diagoclothes hanger may be used for supporting nally downwardly extending portion 10 the other garments.
which returns substantially to the plane ex- The hanger embodying my invention thus tending between the legs 4 and 5. The porprovides a convenient hook that may be read- 55 tion 10 of the strip 1 terminates in a relaily placed in position or removed therefrom portion that extends towards the other leg and terminates in an outwardly curved portion located below the said other leg, the said other leg terminating in an outwardly curved portion located intermediate the end of the first named leg and the outwardly curved portion of the said downwardly inclined portion.
In witness whereof I have hereunto signed my name to this specification.
