Description

Dec. 1, 1953 H. w. WANNOP 2,661,098
WALL HOOK Filed Aug. 26, 1949 i Henry W. Wannop INVENTOR.
?atented cc. 1, 1953 UNITED STATES TENT OFFICE 1 Claim. 1
This invention relates to a hanger to be suspended upon a wall which is primarily designed for use in bathrooms.
Frequently, persons enter bathrooms with wearing apparel, newspapers and magazines. Also, it is quite common for occupants of bathrooms to smoke while performing various duties therein. it is, therefore, a primary object of this invention to provide a device which can be removably suspended on a suitable position on the wall of the bathroom which will allow the occupant to simultaneously hang articles of clothing, and the like thereon, to suspend folded newspapers and magazines therein, and to position and support cigarette and cigar butts.
A further object of this invention is to provide device of the character described which is relatively simple in design and construction, which can be fabricated as a single sheet of stamped metal or attractive plastic, which is relatively inexpensive to manufacture in large quantities, and which is generally efiicient for its intended purpose.
These, together with the various ancillary objects and features of the invention which will later become apparent as the following description proceeds, are attained by the device, a preferred embodiment of which has been illustrated by way of example only in the accompanying drawings wherein:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the hanger or hook;
Figure 2 is a vertical sectional view through the hanger.
Specific reference is now made to the drawings. In the several views in the accompanying drawings and in the following specification reference characters indicate corresponding elements throughout.
Indicated generally at it is an elongated trough having spaced, longitudinally extending, fiat raised portions i2 and it at the front and rear thereof. The front raised portion 12 is further provided with a vertically extending downward flange l6.
ihe rear portion i4 is integral with an elongated plate 58 which is positioned flat against a supporting wall 29 and which is removably secured thereto by suitable screws 22 extending through spaced apertures in the plate is and into the wall is.
Integral with the central bottom edge of the plate 58 is a spring clip 24 having a bowed portion 28 and an upturned hook member 28 at its bottom end. As will be readily seen from the drawings, the bowed spring clip is generally of an S-shape having a portion which normally bears against the wall as shown clearly in Figure 2. This portion receives a friction sleeve 30, preferably in the form of a piece of rubber, which 2 bears against the wall is to prevent injury thereto and to provide close contact between the clip and the wall.
In use, the wall hanger or hook is suspended upon a wall in a bathroom in a manner which will be readily apparent to those skilled in the art. The trough is employed to receive cigarette and cigar butts and ashes, the space 32 between the bowed portion 25 of the spring clip and the wall 29 serves to receive folded magazines, newspapers and the like, and the upturned hook 28 may be employed to suspend articles of clothing, handbags and the like.
In view of the foregoing description taken in comunction with the accompanying drawings it is believed that a clear understanding of the device will be quite apparent to those skilled in this art. A more detailed description is accordingly deemed unnecessary.
It is to be understood, however, that even though there is herein shown and described a preferred embodiment of the invention the same 18 susceptible to certain changes fully comprehended by the spirit of the invention as herein described and the scope of the appended claim.
Having described the invention, what is claimed as new 1s:
A wall fixture for use in bathrooms comprismg a one-piece elongated member of fireproof material having front and rear raised longitudinally fiat coplanar portion and an intermediate depressed open ended longitudinal trough portion between said flat portions for receiving cigarette and cigar butts and ashes, an elongated apron depending from said rear portion, means for removably securing said apron to a wall, and a bowed spring clip depending from the central portion of said elongated apron, said clip including an upturned hook at its bottom end for receiving articles of clothing, the space between the wall and the bowed portion of the clip being adapted to receive magazines and newspapers.
