HANS ACKIERMANN, OF SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA.
GARMENT-SUPPORT.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 25, 1919.
Application filed June 8, 1918. Serial No. 238,949.
My invention relates to improvements in garment supports.
An important object of this invention is to provide a device of the character described, adapted forattachment to the ordinary coat hanger.
A further object of the invention is to provide a detachable hook for a coat hanger adapted to support a pair of trousers, skirt or the like.
A further object of the invention is to provide a device of the character described, which is of highly simplified construction,
' easy to attach to an ordinary coat hanger and cheap to manufacture.
A further object of the invention is to provide a device of the character described, which by virtue of its simplicity in construction and cheapness of manufacture will successfully compete with numerous similar devices in a highly crowded art.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will be apparent in the course of the following description.
In the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification and in which like numerals are employed to designate like parts throughout the same,
Figure 1 is a side elevation of a coat hanger having my improved trouser supporting device applied thereto,
Fig. 2 is an enlarged fragmentary side elevation of a portion of the coat hanger shown in Fig. 1, having my invention applied thereto,
Fig. 3 is a sectional view taken on line 3-3 of Fig. 2, and,
Fig. 4 is a sectional view taken on line 4-4 of Fig. 2.
In the drawings wvherein, for the purpose of illustration, is shown the preferred embodiment of my invention, the numeral 5 designates a coat hanger having the usual shoulders and a longitudinal ru g 7 My improved garment support designated generically by the numeral 8 is adapted to be applied to the longitudinal rung 7. The device is substantially U-shaped and comprises a pair of arms 9 having their lower ends bent upwardl as at 10' thus forming a bight portion 11. he device is adapted to extend over the rung as clearly shown in Fig. 3 and carries an outwardly extending shoulder 12 extending in a horizontal plane to the rung 7. Formed integral with the horizontal shoulder 12 is a plate 13 extending under rung 7. This plate carries an upstanding member 14 adapted to contact with one side of the rung 7 The device is formed of spring metal and is capable of flexing sufficiently to permit of the device being arranged on the rung. By reference to the drawings it will be seen that the upstanding finger 14 carried by the plate 13 is arranged on the opposite side of the rung 7 from the plate 12.
In the use of my device it will be apparent that the same is applied to the coat hanger 5 and it is adapted to receive buttons of a pair of trousers or the like. Particular attention is called to the fact that when the device is used to support trousers one of the supports is longer in length than the other support arranged on the rung, thus compensating for any difference in the arrangement of the buttons on the trousers.
While I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, it is understood that I may make such minor changes in arrangement and construction of parts as will remain within the spirit of the invention and the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is:
1. Th combination with a coat hanger having a longitudinal rung; and the support slidably arranged on the rung, said support being of spring metal and including a pair of downwardly extending arms having hooks at their lower ends; a finger carried by one of said arms and extending under said rung and adapted to engage the opposite side of said rung.
2. In a device of the character described a substantially U-shaped member adapted to be arranged on the longitudinal rung of a coat hanger, said U-shaped member comprising a pair ofarms having sockets formed in their lower ends; a plate carried by the uppe por ion of one of id arms; a finger under the rung and engage the opposite side carried by said plate and adapted to extend finger carried by theplate andadapted to 10 engage the opposite slde of the rung.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
HANS ACKERMANN.
of said rung.
3. The combination of a coat hanger having a longitudinal run and a substantially V-shaped device slida 1y mounted on the rung of said coat hanger and having a socket formed in its lower portion thereof; a plate extending from the U-shaped member and a Witnesses FREDERICK SOHERER, EDWARD KLOES.
