UNITED STATES yEDWARD HAUSER, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
PATENT OFFICE.
HOSE SUPPORTER.
Application. filed December 27, 1926. Serial No. 157,356.
'llhe priniary object of the invention is to provide a hose supporter in which the garter strain upon the hose is greatly eased during certain natural positions, of a wearer suoli as while walking and bending, thereby preventing runs in the hose or stocking.
Another object of the invention is to provide a ladys garter which will not become taut when a strain is applied thereto, i. e., the elastic from which the garter is constructed will never reach its full stretching point, as extra play is provided for receiving` the excess strains at all times.
A further object of the invention resides in a ladys garter so constructed and designedas to receive its main support froin a point at the hips of the wearer, thereby eliminating the bulging at the waist lines caused by the pull at the front of the girdle, or waist encircling band, which band or girdle forins part of a ladys wearing apparel and from which the garter-s are suspended.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a ladys hose supporter which is neat in appearance, comfortable when worn, and siinple and inexpensive of manufacture.
lWith these and other objects in view, the invention resides in certain novel construction and combination and arrangement of pai-ts, the essential features of which are hereinafter fully described, are particularly pointed out in the appended claiin, and are illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of the preferred forni of iny hose supporter in position upon a wearer.
lligure 2 is a perspective view of the saine per se and looking toward the rear thereof.
liigure 3 is a perspective view of a modified foi-in of niy invention.
Referring inore particularly to the drawings, the referencenurneral designates a waist encircling band in the form of a girdle.l corset or belt, which is shown as buttonable in the front as at 11.
ln the preferred form of my ,invention shown in Figures 1 and 2 of the drawings. the waist encircling band is shown as a girdle having a fabric front 12, to the lower edge of which eyes or loops 13 and ll are xedly at tached and which depend therefrom on oppo site sides of the buttonable front 11. The gar ter is constructed of a single length of elastic webbing 1.5 and has one of its ends extending through the eye or loop 13, and its free end provided with an' adjustable buckle 16.
---through which the vertical lead 17 of the webl bing extends. rlhe webbing extends through an eye or loop 18 of a hose supporting clasp 19, and then passes upward at an angle with respect to the vertical lead over the upper part of the hip or thigh portion of the girdle frein where itpasses through loops 20 disposed at opposite sides of the girdle at the back thereof, and a central loop 21 also at the rear, but which loop 21 extends approximately the height of the girdle. .lifter passing through the loops 2() and 21, the strip of elastic webbing is brought downward at the opposite side of the girdle through an eye 22 of a hose engaging clasp 23, and thence upward through the loop lll to provide a second vertical lead 211 adapted to lie against the other leg of the wearer. rllhe other end of the webbing is attached to an adjusting buckle 25 similar to the buckle le for varying the length of the vertical lead 24E.
llfi'oiii the foregoing, it will be seen that the elastic webbing is freely slidable through the loops 20 and 21 and through the loops 18 and 22 of the hose clasps and which webbing may be of an elastic fabric having a smooth facing such as silk or satin, if desired.
lWhen the clasps 19 and 23 are fastened to the top of the stockingas shown in lligure 1 of the drawings, and the wearer is standing in an erect position, it will be seen that the strain or pull is evenly divided on the elastic wel loing, as the webbing encircles the bach of the wearer and rests upon the narrow part of the hips, which supports most of the strain. Should niore strain be placed on one of the supporters than on the other, such as when a person is stoop-ing with one leg bent, the webbing will freely slide around the waist and compensate for its excessive strain. lt will be noted that a pull on either of the supporters will taire up any slaclr in the length of the elastic webbing before the stretching of the saine takes place.
ln lligure 3 of the drawings, l have shown a slightly modified foini of in v invention wherein the elastic webbing extends across the front of the girdle 10 through loops or eyes 26 attached to the sides thereof. In this form, the supporter is constructed of two separate strips of elastic webbing A and B, one of the ends of 'each being supported from the lower front edge of the girdle as shown and described in the preferred form, while the free ends pass through the respective eyes 26 and are detachably connected together by a buckle 27 disposed to one side of the buttonable front 11 of the girdle by suspending the supporters from the front of the girdle, the same serving to give added support to the abdomen of the wearer.
From the foregoing, it will be seen that the different forms of my invention include the same principle, i. e., the provision of a means for relieving any excess strain on any one hose supporter, by providing hose clasp suspenders which are slidably supported from the girdle, corset or belt of the wearer.
While I have described what I deem to be the most desirable embodiment of my invention, it is obvious that many of the details may be varied without in any way departing from the spiritof my invention, and I therefore do not limit myself to the exact details of construction herein set forth nor to anything less than the whole of my invention limited only by the appended claim.
What is claimed as new is A ladys hose supporter comprising a waistencircling band, gulde loops at the sides and back of said waist encircling band, the back loop being disposed on a plane higher than the slde loops, a slngle length of elastic webbing passing through said loops and slidably supported thereby, so that the elastic webbing passes about the top of the back and lower sides of the waist encircling band, said wcbbing having its free ends fixedly connected to the lower front edge of the waist encircling band, and garter clasps slidable on said elastic webbing substantially as and for the purposes specified.
In testimony whereof I have aflixed my signature.
EDWARD HAUSER.
