JOHN O. SLEMMONS, OF PITTSBURG, PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPRQVEMENT IN REMEDIES FOR PULMONARY DISEASES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 1 71,536, dated December 28, 1875; application filed February 24, 1875.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, 'J OHN O. SLEMMoNs, of Pittsburg, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain My invention relates to that class of medical compositions to be taken internally for the cure ofcoughs, colds, and other afl'ections of the lungs; and it consists in a medicine composed of a mixture of oil of sassafras, oil of hemlock, alcohol, hot-drops, or No. 6, tincture of blood-root, tincture of lobelia, molasses, and water, compounded with a mixture of oil of anise and balsam-fir.
To prepare the medicine, take a mixture of oil of sassafras and of oil of hemlock, each two fluid drams, (iBii alc0hol,one pint, (Oi;) hot-drops, or N o. 6, four ounces, (giv tincture ot' lobelia, four ounces, gm tincture of bloodroot, four ounces, (iv;) molasses, one pint,
This is a valuable medicine for the relief I and cure of coughs, colds, and other affections of the lungs. It is to be administered internally, the doses varying, according to the age of the patient, from a few drops to one or one and a half tea-spoonful.
What I claim is- A medical composition composed of a mixture of oil of sassafras, oil of hemlock, alcohol, No. 6, tincture of lobelia, tincture of bloodroot, molasses, and water, with oil of anise and balsam-fir, substantially in the proportions and for the purposes set forth.
