Description

CLAMPS FOR WASHING-MACHINES AND WRINGERS.
, W.. A., DUNCAN.
1 110,171,108, Patented Dec.14, 1875.
WITNESSES INVENTOR Q, @m 0% WM #hm ATTIORNEYS/ N-PETERS, PHOTO-LITHOGRAPHER, WASHlNGT ON. D C,
' UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM A. DUNCAN, OF SYRACUSE, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN CLAMPS FOR WASHING-MACHINES AND WRINGERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 171,108, dated December 14, 1875; application tiled October 2, 1875.
' and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figurel of the drawings is a representation of a front view of my washing-machine, and Fig. 2 is a plan view thereof.
This invention relates to washing and wringing machines; and consists in the novel construction and arrangement of two arms or clamps'for attaching such machine to a washtub, one of said arms being rigid, and the other pivoted, as hereinafter described.
A of the drawings represents the frame, and B B the washing or wringing rollers of my machine, and 0 shows the crank by which said rollers are actuated. The letter D represents an arm or clamp, rigidly attached to one side of the frame, with a recess, a, to fit upon the top of a wash-tub, and a setscrew, c, to clamp the arm to the tub, and hold it firmly. The letter H represents my second arm, having a recess, a, and set-screw 0, corresponding with those on arm D, as shown, and marked with the same letters. This arm H, however, is of much greater length than arm D, and, instead of being rigidly attached'to the frame, it is hinged or pivoted thereto, as shown atf. By means of the rigid arm D and the swinging arm H the operator is enabled to attach the washer or Wringer to tubs or tanks of various sizes. This is accomplished by attaching the arm D first to the tub and then moving the arm H to any position required, and then clamping it to the tab by set-screw on its outer end.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is.
The frame A, provided at one end with the rigid arm D, having the recess a and set-screw c, the opposite end of said frame being provided with a swinging arm, H, having a recess, a, and set-screw 0, whereby the. i'rame is adapted to fit different-sized tubs, and at the same time to be held firmly in place, substantially as described.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
. WILLIAM A. DUNCAN.
