Description
LUKE HALE.
Improvement in Clothes Wri nger s.
No.?20, 512. PatentedOct. 31,1871.
UNITED STATES LUKE HALE, OF HOLLIS, NEW HAMPSHIRE.
IMPROVEMENT IN CLOTHES-WRINGERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 120,512, dated October 31, 1871.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LUKE HALE, of Hollis, in the county of Hillsborough and State of New Hampshire, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Combined Washing-llIachines and OlothesWringers; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, referencebeing had to the annexed drawing makingapart of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure 1 of the drawing is a representation of a vertical longitudinal section of my invention. Fig. 2 is a front elevation of the same.
This invention has relation to clothes-wrin gers; and the novelty consists in the nature of the devices hereinafter described for separating the wringing-rollers.
The accompanying drawing shows my improvements applied to a washingmachine similar in construction to that for which Letters Patent were granted to me October 4, 1870.
A represents an ordinary wash-tub B, the wash-board of the washing-machine attached to the levers O, which are pivoted to the horizontal arms D. D are the rollers, over which the Washboard travels when swung by the handle cl. E represents the standards, to the upper parts of which are attached the wringing devices. F represents a roller, of wood or other suitable material, longitudinally fluted, and journaled to the standards E. Its shaft F holds a crank-arm,
F, by means of which the roller is rotated. G represents an India-rubber roller, journaled above the roller F to a bracket, G, which is hinged, by hinges G, to the front of the standards E. To the upper side of said bracket a curved arm, H, is secured, and to the end of said arm a rod, h, coupled. It is also coupled or pivoted to a lever, I, which turns on the shaft H. By raising the lever I the roller G is raised from contact with the roller F. The standards E are provided with legs E, which fit out over the rim of the tub and serve to clamp the machine in position. When the bracket G is thrown back the bent arm H and the rod h act together in looking it in such position.
During the operation of wringing the rollers are held together by theoperator pressing down on the lever I.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In a olothes-wringing machine, the arrangement of the bracket Gr hinged to the wringerframe, and provided with the roller G, spring H, lever I, and connecting-rod h, constructed and applied in the manner substantially as set fdrth.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
LUKE HALE.
