Description

Feb. y24, 1931. F. G. WRIGHT LooR wAxER Filed Feb. 28, 1927 INI/EN TOR.

BY aufn/wwf ATTORNEY i Patented Feb. 24, 1931 irsnsrares FRANK G". WRIGHT, `OF `SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA 1 FLOOR WAXER indication inea February 2s, 1927. serial No. 171,587.
My invention relates to floor waXers, more particularly to adevice for distributing wax on floors for polishing purposes, and the objects of my invention are zlirst, to provide a 5 device foi` distributing wax on floors, which may be operated by persons in a standing or walking posture; second, to provide a device i of this class which operates by letting the liquid floor wax seep through a piece of felt which distributes it upon tliefioor surface; third,`to providea device of this class in which the felt pad becomes saturated by means of capillary attraction, thereby providing for i even thin distributienet liquid wax upon the floor; fourth, to provide a device of this class which is not operated, by reason of varying pressures applied thereon, `and fifth, to pro` vide a device of this classwhich is very simple and economicalof construction, durable, efficient in its action,`and which will notreadily deteriorate or get out of order.
Vith these and other objects in view, as will appear hereinafter, my invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts and portions, as will be hereinafter described in detail and particularly set forth in the api pended claims, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to the characters of reference thereon, whichform a part of this application, in which: i
Figure l is a perspective view of my ioor waxing device, shown in operative position on a floor; Fig. 2 is an enlarged front elevational view thereof; Fig. 3 is a still further enlarged sectional view through 3--3 of Fig. 2; Fig. 4 is a fragmentary sectional view through 4- 4 of Fig. 3, and Fig. 5 is a still further enlargedfragmentary sectional view though 5-5 of Fig. 4.
Similar characters of reference refer to similar parts and portions throughoutthe several views of the drawings. p The liquid receptacle 1, cap 2, handle socket 3, handle member 4, and felt pad 5, constitute the principal parts and portions of my floor.
waXer. d
The liquid receptacle l is a relatively long, hollow, cylindrical member provided with a closed head la and with a funnelshapedhead lb at its opposite end. This funnel-'shaped head portion lb is provided with a reduced threaded portion lc upon which is mounted a screw cap ,2,` which is provided with a gasket 2a to provide a tight fit between 55 said cap 2 and the head lb, it being noted that there is provided on the portion lo an inwardly extending flange portion ld, which provides a relatively wide portion for the outer edge of the gasket 2a to rest upon. Secured ce on the normally upper side of the liquidreceptacle l atthe middle thereof is a socket member 3, which is provided with outwardly extending lug members 3a, which are riveted to said receptacle l, and is also provided with a socket portion 3b, in which is adapted to fit the handle member 4, which is preferablyV an mordinary wooden handle, which is secured thereto by means of a bolt 4a, it being noted i thatthe socket portion 3b is positioned rela- Io tive to the receptacle so that a person may operate the device in a walking or standing posture. In the normally lower side of the liquid receptacle lis provided a slot or groove, ex-` tending the full length thereof, and the metal at the sides is providedwith downwardly ex tending` portions le and 1f in spaced relation toeach other, and these portions are preferably bent back against themselves and extend upwardly, forming portions 1g and llt, thus so providing reinforcing for the side members le and 1]". Interposed between the members le and lf is a felt pad '5,wl1ich is adapted to extend downwardly some distance and form a slightly flexible pad for distributing the liqa5 uid wax upon the floor. This pad 5 is pressed upwardlyslightly into the receptacle so that the pad is depressed at the lower edges of the members la and lb, forming a. liquid-tight fit at the ends, and this` pad is secured in poce sition by means of a plurality of bolts 5a, thus rigidly securing the felt pad 5 in position where it serves as a receiver, conductor and distributor' of the liquid wax.
`The operation of my floor waXer is as fol-` es lows:
The member l is turned up in a vertical position so that the cap 2 is at the upper end, and liquid iioor wax is poured into the open end after removing the cap. It is preferred slot, a single, one-piece felt padvclainped be-k Y Patent is slot.
ewj y,
to slightly dilute the floor wax with turpentine or other suitable thinningliquid, and after placing the cap in position tightly, the device is ready for operation. `The liquid wax is absorbed by the felt pad 5. Then the liquid wai; is spread over the surface of the floor by moving the pad over the floor surface,
ythe liquid waxseeping out during the operation. v
rlhough I have shown and described a par? ticular construction, combination andi ar-f rangement of parts and portions, l not wish to be'liinited to this particular'contruction, combination and arangenient, but desire to include in the-scope of niy invention,
the construction, combination and arrangeinentsubstantially as set forth in the 'appen-ded clainis, l l n Y ving thus describedV 'iny invention, .what I :claim as new and desire to lsecure by Letters l; )inV a floor waiter, a hollow'receptacle with a filler opening and provided with an open slot along one side, flanges extending straight outwardly at opposite sides of said slot, and a single, one-piece felt padclaniped :between said flanges and extending into said,
