Where the vfabric 4 isthreaded through the keeper, Figs. 2 and 3, the buckle 17 will impinge the return loop `18 and the free end 19 against the back fabric 5 and close the opening 12. vVhere the keeper is merely sewed tothe strip 2 as shown in Figs. VV5 and 6,' the free end 2O will be pinched against the back fabric 5 and also closethe opening '12 to prevent movement of the 5o stay 13.

AThe ankle encircling band or web 1 has a buckle 40 `fastened to one of its ends 41 as clearly shown in Fig. 4. This buckle is disposed at an angle to the band to cause the band to assume a conical or tapered shape when the' Afreeeiid 42-of the band is received by the buckle. This arrangement permits thel band to conform with the shape of the users ankle and overcomesbinding and chafing.
