BUTTON AND MEANS FOR SIECURING IT TO GARMENTS Filed June 14, 1929 Zyl INVENTO W ATTORNEYS stitching commonly used by which the edges of the cover are drawn together.
With this construction the shank 5 receives all of the wear from the buttonhole or button loop and the strainV upon the portion A of the garment is widely distributed by the large end of the shank and the Washer 11. Therefore the button will remain securely fastened to the garment for a long time.
A modified form of means for attaching the button to the garment is shown in Figure 3 oit'V the drawing and rcomprises a disc 14 of suitable material, such as leather, which overlies the outer surface ,4 of thebutton and has spaced openings 15 therein through which is threaded a cord 16. The ends of the cord pass through the opening 7 of the buitton and an opening 17 in the garment. At the side of the garment opposite the button is located another disc 18 identical with the disc 14: and having openings 19 through which are threaded the extremities of the cord which are knotted at 20 at the outer side of the disc.
The two discs 14 and 18 in combination with the cord 16 thus serve to securely attach the button to the garment.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is: Y y
l. As an article of manufacture, a button comprising a blockl havin@ aV disc-like body provided with aat undersideand an integral shank projecting from said flat side coaXially j with the body, the sides of said shank meeting said flat sides of said body at substantially right angles, and a covering for said body comprising a piece of materiaihaving its edges secured in close contact with said flat side of the body around said shank.
2. As an article of manufacture, a button comprising a block of Wood having a disclike body provided with a Hat-underside and a conveXly curved upper side, and an integral cylindrical shank projecting coaXially from said flat underside with straight sides meeting said Hat underside at right angles, there being a hole extending entirely through said body and said shank and coaXially therewith to receive fastening means for securing the button to a garment'.
' 3. As an article ofmanufacture, abutton comprising a block of Wood having a disclike body, and an integral shank projecting coaxially from the underside of said body, there being a straight Walled hole extending entirely through said body and said shank coaXially therewith, and `fastening means for securing said button to a garment comprising a Wood screw havinga shank'oil greater diameter than said hole in the button, anda Washer to be arranged between the head of said screw and theend 'of said shank.
