Description

Sept. 30, 1924. I 1,510,089
v G. KELLOG BUTTON Filed July 26. 1923 A t 3 m IN VEN TOR.
ATTORNEY.
reamed Sept. so, 1924.
UNITED STATES GEORGE KELLOG, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
BUTTON.
Application filed July 26, 1923. Serial No. 653,986.
To all whom it may concern."
Be it known that I, GEORGE KELLOG, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county-"of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Buttons, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to buttons and more particularly to a novel and improved sec- W tional button or fastener which can be attached without sewing the same to the material or garment on which it is to be placed.
Une' of the objects of my invention is to provide a button wherein the head is provided with a stud or projection which maybe forced through the'material to receive a threaded ca thereon so as to lock the head and firm y clamp and grip the fabric or material thus eliminating the necessity of sewing the button to the same.
A. continued object of my invention is to provide a sectional button of thecharacter above specified which. is extremely simple in construction, easily assembled, practical, g5 durable, and otherwise capable of being manufactured at an extremely low cost whereby its commercial possibilities are greatly enhanced.
in the drawings, attached herewith and forming a part of the specification, Figure 1 is a top plan view. FigureQ is a bottom plan view. Figure 3 is an enlarged sectional view showing the button attached to a piece of fabric. I
Referring now to the drawings, wherein like reference characters designate corresponding' parts throughout the several views, 5 designates the head of the button, having 4 a preferably concaved top surface, which may be of plain material or, if so desired, emln-oidered. ornamented or designed in any well known manner. The head is formed with a flat bottom surface 6 and centrally thereof, is provided with a truncated projection 7 in the form of a pyramid in which a stud 8 is secured and extends partly into the body portion of the head 5 above referred to. "The opposite end of the stud 8 is threaded as indicated at 10 and terminates in a sharp point 11, designed as to be easily forced through the material or fabric when it is desired to position the button. A cap, 12, somewhat smaller in diameter than the head 5 is provided with a central, threaded aperture whereby the said cap may be secured-on the threaded portion of the stud. and thus lock. and clamp the material between the projection 7 and the annular surface 13 of the cap.
It Will be readily understood, that if so desired, the cap 12 may also be ornamented for the obvious purpose.
It will thus be seen that a button of this construction permits of its easy attachment to any part of a garment without sewin the same and since it can be easily detache without in any Way, afi'ecting the material since it is' well known that in the removal of buttons or when replacing the same, the fabric is sometimes ripped or torn. A button of this character can easily be attached by simply forcing the pointed end of the stud through the material and threadin the cap 12 thereon, thus locking the stu YVhile I have illustrated and described my invention with some degree of particularity, I realize that in p actice various alterations therein may be ade. I therefore reserve the right and privilege of changing the form of the details of construction or otherwise altering the arrangement of the correlated parts without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the appended claim.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by United States Letters Patefit is:
A button of the class described comprising a head having a truncated, pyramidal shank, a stud'secured within "the shank, said stud having a threaded portion and a pointed extremlty for piercing the material or fabric, and a cap threaded on the stud for fastening the bottom face of the shank to 95 the fabric.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
V GEORGE KELLOG. [13. 3.]
