W. COLLEY.
BUTTON.
ION FILED FEB. 21, 1920.
APPLICAT Patented Dec. 13, 1921.
W Galley rarest WALTER COLLEY, 0F CALGARY, ALBERTA, CANADA.
BUTTON.
incense Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. is, real.
Application filed February 21, 1920. Serial No. 360,280.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that l, WALTER Conner, a subject of the King of Great Britain, residing at Calgary, in the Province of .Arlberta and Dominion of Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Buttons; and ldo hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will onaole'others skilled in. the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to new and useiiul improvements in buttons and has for its primary object the provision of a stud haying threaded connection with the body of the button so that the same can be readily applied and removed from a garment, thereby obviating; the customary method ofsecuring buttons to garments and also when in use will not tear or injure the garment.
Another object of this invention is the provision oi a button of the above stated character, which shall be simple, durable and eilicient, and which may be manufac tured and sold at a comparatively low cost.
il ith these and other objects in View as will become more apparent as the description proceeds, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction, combination, and arrangement of parts as will be hercii'iatter more fully described and claimed.
For a complete understanding of my invention, reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying draw ing, in which Figure l, is a side elevation of a button constructed in accordance with my invention and illustrating the same applied to the cloth of a garment,
Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional View illustrating the manner of connecting the stud to the body of the button,
Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the stud.
Referring in detail to the drawing, the numeral 1. indicates the head or body of a button which may have its outer face ornamented in any desired design and has formed upon its inner face a tubular neck or shank 2 that is internally screw threaded.
A stud 3 consisting of a base l has formed thereon a screw threaded shank 5 which is provided with a pointedend 6 so that the same can be readily pushed through the fabric oi a garment and then threaded into the neck'Q for securing the body or head i to the garment. it is to be noted that the neck 2 is of sufficient size so as to prevent tearing and mutilation of the fabric oil the garment when applied thereto. After the stud. has been passed through the fabric oi a garment, the neck 2 is threaded thereon and will be drawn against the fabric of the garment to firmly secure the same thereto.
While I have shown and described the 5 preferred embodiment of inventioinit will be understood that minor changes in I construction, combination and arrangement of parts may be made without departing from the spirit and scope oi. the invention as claimed.
Having thus described my invention, what I claimisa- A button comprising a head, a cylindrical shank on said head having its end enlarged and of annular shape to provide a bearing taco adapted to engage a garment, said shank being disposable in a button hole and maintained therein by said end and said head, said end serving to space apart portions of a garment and being oi? a diameter greater than the diameter of the shank, said shank having a screw threaded bore, an annular base of substantially the same diameter as the bearing head of the shank and adapted to engage the op 'iosite face of the garment from that engaged by the bearing end of the shank, and a screw threaded stud on the base having a pointed end a'dapt- 1 ed to be pushed through the garment and'90 into the bore oi the shank, said stud being screw threaded into said here to firmly se cure the device to the garment.
In testimony whereof I atlix my signature in presence of two witnesses. I r
lVALTER GOLL EY.
