Description

Patented Apr. 29, 193O UNITED STATES PATENT oFFicE JAMES '1. WALKER, OF PELHAM, AND HARRY O. WEI'I'LICH, OF NEW ROCHELLE, NEW
YORK, ASSIGNORS 'I'O W. S. T. SANI-PRO CORPORATION OF NEW YORK DUGTS CORR, v01E BROOKLYN, NEW YORK, A.
COMBINATION rownna roar AND -I- Application filed October 1c, 1928. Serial No. 312,793.
Our invention relates to powder pufis and has for its main object to provide a combination powder puff and cleanser of real sanitary and convenient construction, pleasing appearance, and which can be manufactured at a low cost.
These and other objects and advantages will be clearly understood from the following description and from the accompanying drawing of a preferred embodiment, but it will be noted that certain modifications might be made without departing from the scope of the invention. In the drawings,
Fig. l is a plan view of the combination powder puff and cleanser, v
Fig. 2 is a side view of same, and
Fig. 3 is another side View.
The powder puif consists of what may be termed a back or body member A to which are attached a plurality of leaves B stacked one on top of the other. The leaves are held together and secured to the body member by stitches C, sewed in several places near the margin. A loop D is also secured by means of the stitches.
The reason for stitching the leaves to the body member as shown, is to make it easy to remove them'one at a time, when soiled, and also to form a pocket E in which the user may place her fingers while using the powder puff. A-pocket thus formed is plainly shown in Fig. 3. To further facilitate the removal of v the leaves, one byone, a tab F is formed on each.
The body member, which is stitched around the edge to. prevent fraying, is preferably made of velure or other piled fabric, but any other suitable material may be used. The leaves are preferably made of soft tissue paper but here also other materials ma be used.
With the present construction t e leaves are used without removing them, thus preventing the leaf in use from wrinkling as would otherwise be the case. The unused leaves also form a soft cushion for the top leaf, making its use on the skin very pleasant. While either side of the powder pufl may be used for applying powder or other cosmetics, by using the back for powdering and the leaves for cleaning the skin before powdering, the back is not soiled, while the leaves, being removable, can be discarded as used. This is, particularly of advantage in warm Weather when powdering the face without first. removing the perspiration therefrom causes the powder to cake both on the face and the powder puff and to quickly soil the powder puff. l I
It will be seen that we have succeeded in providing a powder pufi which'combines convenience with real sanitary advantages.
Having described our invention and its advantages, what we claim as new and wish to protect by Letters Patent is:
1. In a combination powder puff and cleanser, a body member, a plurality of removable leaves interposed one upon another and attached to. said body member by a plucleanser, a body member, a plurality of re-- movable leaves interposed one upon another and attached to said body member by a plurality of stitches near the margin, a tab formed on the margin of-each leaf to facilitate its removal, the exposed side of the body member constituting a powder puff.
3. In a combination powder puff and cleanser, a body member, a plurality of removable leaves interposed one upon another and attached to said body member by a plurality of stitches near the margin, 2. tab formed on the margin of each leaf to facilitate its removal, the unused leaves forming a cushion for the topmost leaf, and the exposed side of the body member constituting a powder puff.
