E. BLUMENTHAL CAP TOWEL Filed April 10, 1924 INVENTOR aw ATTORNEY PatentedMar. 23, 1926.
PATENT OFFICE.
ELLA BLUMEI THAL, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
GAY TOWEL.
Application filed April 10, 1924. Serial-No. 705,500.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ELLA BLUMENTHAL, citizen of the United States, residing at New York city, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Gap Towels, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to head cloths used by hairdressers, barbers and atrons to pro" tect and cover .the head during facial and hair treatments, such as scalp and face massages and hair'dyeing, the invention having for an object the provision of a novel cloth of this sort provided with means for securing it in place upon the head of the person being treated.-
For further comprehension of the invention, and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the following description and accompanying drawing, and to the appended claim in which the various novel features of the invention are more particularly set forth.
Fig. 1 of the drawing is a face view showing my improved head cloth.
' Fig. 2 is a side view showing it as in position in use.
Fig. 3 is a similar view to Fig. 1 but showing a modification.
As here embodied my improved head cloth comprises a cloth piece 10 of approximately semi-circular form, and which may be conveniently made of the material known as crash toweling. Projected from opposite sides of this member 10, adjacent the straight edge thereof, are the ears or tabs 11 to the ends of which are secured the tapes or strings 12, the 'two tapes being preferably of equal lengthand of a length approximately equal to'the width of the member 10. In applying the cloth to the head of the person being treated it is placed on the. head with the straight edge extending across the forehead and the rounded edge falling down over the sides and back of the head. The two tabs 11 are then drawn backward along the sides of the head and overthe rounded rear portion of the cloth which latter is folded in pleats, as shown in Fig. 2 of the drawing,
close against the back and sides of the head. The strings or tapes 12 are then passed around the head close to the straight edge of the cloth, which edge now forms the bottom of the cap produced or constituted by the cloth, and are tied to ether at the front as shownat 13. The clotli, when in position fits snugly upon the head and prevents escape of heat.
In the form of the invention shown in Fig. 3 of the drawing the cloth 10*, with the tabs 11 and strings 12 corresponding to the parts 10, 11 and 12 are provided. In this case the cloth is formed with a number of openings 20 which are normally closed by the flaps 21 which are attached at one side to the underside of the cloth and are of suflicient size to underlie at their other sides the corresponding edges of the openings 20. Access to a desired partof the scalp may then be had by simply pushing one of the flaps 21 out of the Way.
I might if desired make my im )roved cover of other material such as rubber or paper.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent of the United States is as follows A head cloth for hairdressing use comprising a body of approximately semicircular shape, and strings attached to said body at the sides thereof adjacent the ends of the straight edge thereof, said body being formed with a number of openings, and flaps attached to the underside of the body and covering said openings.
In testimony whereof I have ailixed my signature.
ELLA BLUMENTI-IAL.
